I tend to agree, but would argue that such decisions/trends have afflicted most major racetracks in the U.S., and that they reflect the results of terribly short-sighted policies over the past several decades. Mirroring broader American society, there has been a tremendous concentration of wealth and power into fewer and fewer hands, and the "middle-class", both in broader society and the racing game, has been eviscerated as a result.

I grew up going to Saratoga Race Course many times a week and picnicking at the top of the stretch. This was the tradition for many families. Today it has been replaced with corporate boxes and not accessible. NYRA greed has destroyed the Spa.The mystique is no longer.NYRA GREED.

@peterjpavia @JebraFaushay Its been a really long time since Ive seen the original. I grew up in florida and we must have seen that pacino version hundreds of times. Plus we were all doing coke at the time so it seemed more realistic and relevant to us.

@NotSolWalker @JebraFaushay Fair. I saw the Pacino one again last week. Contemporary, ultra violent, with what I thought was a kind of cartoony performance. Not that Muni's wasn't in the original. I get why people like it, but the picture's a sledgehammer.

@gporter812 Were you standing next to me when I said it😉 the rider followed her instructions to a t. She ran out of crop hits and the filly will not run unless she feels the bridle in her mouth (hence the unconventional approach we have had to take).

I can just imagine the instructions given by Adrianne. "She'll break kind of slow but don't worry. Keep her out of trouble early. Guide her to the outside down the backstretch and she'll pick it up on the turn (BUT), when when she gets room she'll want to go go go go."

@peterjpavia @Pick4win In 1991, NYRA expanded the meeting to 30 days or 5 weeks. In the 70s, they ran Four, 6 day weeks with Sunday being the dark day. When NYRA added Sundays, the racing week became Wednesday thru Sunday, with Tuesday being the dark day.
