@SkyNews The parties all focus heavily on each other and bringing one another down and yet very little of that same effort is seen being put into the people.

@MichelleDewbs "The average annual fee fee for a day school in January 2025 was £20,000 (exc VAT) according to the Independent Schools Council" So a child's total education costs about £250,000 They are not 'just normal folk' wanting the best for their children.

I went to a state school. I used to be against private schools. I used to think they were toffs & people who thought they were better than us. Then I matured. I now realise that in the main, the people who send their kids to one are just normal folk who have decided to prioritise best education for their children and often make significant sacrifice to do so. Alongside this, they also help fund the state education system, which they don’t use. Whatever problems state schools face, it certainly isn’t as a result of private schools. If anything, kids going private eases pressure on the state system. The closure of these schools are utterly tragic for the kids affected. The policy attempts to damage the private system are an act of societal self-harm. Anyone who celebrates it, is frankly, a fool. edp24.co.uk/news/26058426.…

@thevikingscot @anaboultertv Presumably it wouldn’t be open to children who parents provided them with music tuition if they went to a state school, or who went to an excellent state school that provided music at a high standard. Same privilege

@anaboultertv The course is a bursary funded course for those who do not have privileged access to music classes That private schools would have. Surely it’s great to give 5 disadvantaged children a chance to succeed

Banned by a woman who had a private education paid for by her billionaire father. 'One rule for me,' she merrily sang with perfect pitch. Meanwhile the children at Independent schools WITHOUT billionaire fathers and on full scholarships were relegated to the triangle in a conservatory.

Private school pupils banned from conservatoire course. We are now a country that punishes success - God forbid a parent wants a better education for their child!!

I’m puzzled. Labourites tell us that Angela Rayner was only trying to look after her child which they quite rightly say is understandable. But when a farmer tries to look after his children, they say he’s a tax dodger.

@pistol1603 @Tt65241391 @anaboultertv Actually parents who send their kids to private school subsidize the state by not utilizing a school place but paying the tax towards it. It’s easy to twist facts by omission to make your own argument look correct

@Tt65241391 @anaboultertv Stop pretending the VAT on private schools policy is about disabled or autistic kids. That’s the biggest smokescreen ever. It’s about not subsiding the education of the wealthy and not treating elitist institutions as charities.

VAT on Education - 'Senior Judges in the Divisional Court ruled today that the Government's VAT measure discriminated against children with special needs without an EHCP.' The Govt however 'won'- if you like celebrating discrimination - that legally they can add VAT. Morally - not so much. Well done @Keir_Starmer - another clear sign that you care nothing for human rights.

@Dave_Tingle @anaboultertv Pity labour plan to spend the extra money they’ve gained on housing, while simultaneously increasing pupil numbers by the closure of private schools and the lack of affordability for those on the edge. I’d also point out, it’s the parents of those send kids who’s vat bill it is

@anaboultertv The legal challenge was always doomed; it is now time to divert efforts towards securing greater SEND funding for state schools rather than sparing private schools their VAT bill. Having paraded sudden concern for SEND pupils, abandoning them now would be hypocritical.

@jim_crawfurd @trentconsultant The issue with this is the pay is never good enough to incentivize (already overworked staff) to do more. That is my experience as an nhs doctor of 22 years. Neither party has ever got this right

@trentconsultant To be fair, I’ve always been against the NHS paying for a lot of agency staff - it’s a form of privatisation. Have always been in favour of having enough staff on rotas to not need agency, and of using local, “known” bank staff in preference, when gaps do occur.

@JackieTainsh @ajlees @trentconsultant @DrJoFranklin The reality is that the in house agency provided poor pay for doctors and nurses. It’s easy to blame each political party but the reality is they all use the nhs is a kicking post for their agendas. Short term thinking, lack of strategy and honesty with the public.

Chris@IrritableChris·
So in October, @bphillipsonMP and the labour party were using a report from the National Audit Office to demonstrate how broken SEND services were in our state schools. @bphillipsonMP and @UKLabour were posting the findings of this report far and wide in order to demonstrate why they needed to improve these services and how it was a priority to do so. Today, the government and speaker of the house (who is supposed to be impartial let's not forget) spent taxpayers money on KC's to argue that this very same report they were shouting from the rooftops about, should not have been admissible as evidence in court during the school fee VAT legal cases. Namely because it supports the argument that the state cannot cope with the influx of thousands more children requiring SEND provision. Apparently, after months of relying on this report and its figures for their own purposes and justification, the speaker, government and Bridget Phillipson have now decided they don't agree with the figures in it. The rank hypocrisy from @bphillipsonMP is astounding. I also think any pretence that the speaker @LindsayHoyle_MP is impartial has also now evaporated, if it hadn't already.

@hmtreasury It’s not a VAT break it’s an enforcement of VAT on parents to pay 20% more. The money that you will need in residual services such as CAHMs, litigation, SEND provision, and capital projects will outweigh the ability to invest. With a 40k deficit in teaching staff and growing.
