@vibeonX69 There is still FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD and illumos.
Or have a look at HaikuOS.
No reason to go to Mac OS or Windows.

@AnnatarTheMaia @markun8633 Sure, it would be preferable to have illumos at the hypervisor level, but if what you already have is a hypervisor then I would love to see illumos running on it - the more we get used, in any scenario, the better
English

@markun8633 @ptribble It makes no sense to run Tribblix (or any illumos-based distribution) on a hypervisor, as any illumos-based OS is a much better hypervisor than what's available on the market. You have Solaris zones in Tribblix, and lx-branded ones, too (Omnitribblix).

@FelixCLC_ @kpertsev @theodorvaryag @oxidecomputer Huh. Being Oxide, they probably have some riveting, novel length (not being sarcastic) explanation of why. It's amazing how often I find that when Linux does something boneheaded, it's because it's a poor copy of something Solaris did in a way that made sense.
English

@kpertsev @theodorvaryag @FelixCLC_ @oxidecomputer Nope, that’s actual Oracle Solaris - rustup has long supported illumos (on x86 anyway - rust for illumos on SPARC is still a bit of a work in progress). Like go, the distinction between illumos and Solaris now matters.

It’s important that past mistakes are not repeated. It’s time to make practical and tangible progress on the mass rapid transit this region so badly needs.

🗨️ A local resident has told us how our work so far on the #Barton Greenway has improved his weekends.
'The improvements have made my weekend walks to Cambridge significantly easier... the reduced noise of traffic from the lower speed limit is very much appreciated' 🚶☀️

@lawofcons Often, the true value in software lies in its stability.

I’m a huge GNU fan and not the biggest Rust fan, but my professional experience says things usually benefit from a rewrite, even if it’s in the original language. GNU itself was a rewrite. The value is in the fresh start, not just the language choice.
vermaden@vermaden
Rust rewrites of sudo(8) and/or GNU coreutils shows that 'just' rewriting in Rust does not make things better - it just provides new and different bugs. Better would be to just iron out all remaining C bugs and improve the code that been battle tested for last 50 years. POLA.

@SandieBlickem @SpottedInEly @ZoneOContention @CambridgeGreens @Cambslive @HeartCambs @MillRoadBridges @MillRoadHistory @millroadbutcher @Gerribird What do you have against Mill Road? With the bus gate it’s much safer, less polluted, far more attractive to visit, and easier to get to. Why campaign to make it worse?
