@rationalaussie Not really, no. I would say Australia is as fucked if not more then UK, and certainly more then average Europe.

People say that Australia is fucked, and in many ways it is, but Europe and the UK are turbo fucked. Like literally civil war levels of fucked. Non-peaceful outcomes are all but guaranteed there. Australia is at least blessed with natural resources and has ample food production. Yeah the government is retarded - incredibly retarded - but removing a retarded government is a lot easier than trying to unfuck a shit geography with scarcity of energy/food, and remigrating a couple million immigrants is a lot easier than remigrating tens of millions. We are also an island, completely isolated from the rest of the world. It's actually pretty fucking difficult to get here, and the fact the government has managed to facilitate importing so many immigrants that no one wanted is a testament to how utterly retarded they are. Hard times are coming, but Australia is a better country to weather the storm than just about anywhere else right now. Everything is fucked anyway so you have to choose the country that is least fucked. Many went to Dubai, look how that's played out. Many went to Europe to chill - okay have fun when the war kicks off there. Many went to Asia to be a digital nomad - be careful what you wish for, you're now a permanent digital nomad with no way to get home because they are already out of fuel. The point I am trying to make is this: Life is a game of tradeoffs, and optimising for wealth creation is not always the best decision. Most of the time it's not, actually. Many people are still looking through our world with a financial lense, not realising that all that matters now is survival, both literally and figuratively. We are entering a period of peak chaos. The range of possible outcomes is extremely wide. The path is not clear. Many different things, all path dependent, could happen. In times like this you shouldn't optimise solely for wealth creation, you should optimise for survival in all realms: make sure your portfolio lives to see another day sure, but also make sure you're not gonna end up stuck in some shithole country when the missiles start firing just because you wanted to pay 10% less tax. Because honestly a lot of this shit misses the point: If you have internalised where we are in history, as well as where things are going, most of your work, money etc - it's all pointless. Capital controls are coming, as well as heavy taxation, meaning the government is going to steal all your money anyway to save themselves. And if you somehow make it through that, because you're a Bitcoiner, you're still gonna have to navigate a future where AI + robotics takes every feasible job. So yeah, none of it really matters. Not from a doomer perspective, but from the perspective that you should play the hand you are dealt and roll the dice as you see fit. My mental model of this is to act like it's all a video game, because it probably is. Treat things both lightly and seriously. Work hard if you enjoy what you do but not hard enough that people can tell you are working hard. It should all look like play - that is life.

@TristinHopper Its because older generation remembers times when Britain was a factor, a “almost superpower”, while young Brits (who have in not small part immigrant background) not only dont remember it, but would probably hate it if they did remember it.

I have a hunch why British old people are more conservative; they remember the absolute shit-show of the 1970s. But I can't explain what's going on with the youth.

i recently turned my attention to the state of the UK, particularly the way in which unvetted illegal migrants are out performing English men the rate at which they commit violent crime is STAGGERING furthermore: 🐐 more inbred = more crime 🗡️ more crime = more benefits in my opinion, no sane person could look at the data and conclude the RNLI should continue to escort boat loads of fighting age men across the English Channel however, every time i see these figures on X there are a sea of lefties crying racism 100% of my attempts to open sensible discussion has ended with at least one of the following: 🗣️ name calling (spoiler... i'm aware i'm bald) 🚫 blocking (usually paired to a QT declaring 'victory') 🤸‍♀️ mental gymnastics (Danish data doesn't count) do we just write-off the modern left as a group of learning disabled lunatics and hope there aren't enough of them to see a Green Party landslide or is there some playbook for getting these people to remove their blinkers and see what's actually going on in this country answers on a postcard 💌

It is frustrating how they have taken the concept of remigration and tried to poison it like this. There is nothing fundamentally outrageous about people remigrating to their homeland. For example, imagine that there is now peace in there, and the immigrants would like to return. Perhaps the host nation helps them get settled and helps rebuild the country. This would be remigration — immigration that goes the other way. But if you google remigration, you get Wikipedia telling you that it’s “ethnic cleansing via mass deportation”.

I understand Germans are upset but let me point out some realities for you. It is really really hard to find young Germans with a STEM education in large numbers. Even for very well paying jobs you can only fill 30-40% jobs with Germans because it is not easy to find German software developers, statisticians, analysts, etc. There is a very specific reason for this which is not really discussed. Most back-office jobs are considered boring, unsexy, and uncool. They pay well but no one is going to think you are cool if you are a web developer. Go to a Berlin comedy club. You will find out which jobs are considered hip and trendy, and they are all in fashion, art or psychology. Crunching numbers using code is a back office job that offers no visibility. You are not going to be the face of the company, you are not going to be doing podcast tours. You come in, write code, generate spreadsheets and collect your paycheck. That’s it. That’s the job. And I have met so many young smart people who find this deeply repulsive and have actively walked away from these types of careers. A common major I find young people in Germany take up is Business Administration. It offers a pathway to consulting, finance and management. Jobs where you sit in board meetings, get to wear fancy suits and maybe travel internationally. Unfortunately in any economy consulting and management jobs are limited. You need a lot more people to do the actual dirty work, writing the codes, doing the analysis and building the product. Germany obviously has very smart people. The market however doesn’t really care how smart you are. It rewards grit, perseverance and discipline far more than raw intelligence. I kind of get it though. If I had grown up in a first world country I would have probably studied film studies, art history or psychology too.

The Labor Party and the Liberals combined to add 10% to the population of Australia in just 5 years. Here is what this genius economic policy did to housing costs in my city of Brisbane: - The four-bedroom house I rent with room mates costs $900 a week, up from $500 a week in 2020. So we pay $20,800 a year extra for the exact same house. - The house would have sold for $700,000 in 2020. It’s now worth $1.3 million despite no material changes to the house. - You could have bought the house for a 10% deposit of $70,000 back in 2020 and paid $2,500 a month in mortgage repayments. - Now you need to save $130,000 to make a 10% deposit and need to pay $7,015 a month in mortgage repayments. - Current rent is $3,600 a month. The mortgage would be $7,015 a month. It is literally cheaper to rent forever than to take on 30 years of debt to own the same property. - When I tried to rent this property I had to first apply for 70 different places and was rejected from almost every single one. I would line up for a house inspection with hundreds of other people, most of whom arrived in the country extremely recently. - Australia has the second highest dwelling construction rate in the OECD. Yet we still have a housing crisis. Ghee, I wonder why people are mad. Must be online bots and discontinuation mate.

Here's my theory: A certain amount of infidelity and emotional breakdown is baked into marriage and humanity. What changes between individuals is tolerance for it, and the opportunity costs of leaving a marriage. Opportunity cost of leaving is typically higher for heterosexual couples than same-sex ones, because earning disparities and children are more common. The nuclear family structure has more benefits than just companionship. However, even though children and earning disparities are less common among gay men, they are simply much more tolerant of infidelity than most people, so they're going to stay married. Further, data shows men do not file for divorce at nearly the same rate women do. This initiative doesn't exactly tell you which marriages are bad, it simply tells you that women, for whatever reason, seem to have more initiave to end a marriage than men. That's the reason divorce is high among lesbians. You have two people in the marriage with high initiative when it comes to filing. Further, lesbians are neither tolerant of infidelity or emotional distance. They're less likely to have children or large earning gaps than heterosexual couples, decreasing the opportunity cost of leaving. Most importantly, lesbians are also singularly unconcerned with age and fertility in possible mate selection. Gay men are more image-based, and often fetishize youth. So do heterosexuals. Lesbians are less likely to. That means they don't see re-entering the dating pool at 40 or older as hopeless. Lesbians have the most initiative, least tolerance, and lowest opportunity costs. So they get divorced more.
Hitchslap@Hitchslap1

Lesbians have the least stable marriages. Gay men have the most stable marriages. I’m yet to hear a good explanation for this.
