@hft_trading1988 @ArminRosen 1) The economy as a whole is already functionally crippled under sanctions. 2) They can keep critical state functions (especially manufacturing more drones) running on local generators. It's the Iranian civilians who need things like a functioning power grid.

@ArminRosen I'm not sure why Trump would even deploy troops if they would just be sitting ducks for Iranian drones to take out. It's far better to destroy all Iranian power infrastructure and then oil infrastructure. Cripple the whole country.

@dilanesper Wait. Didn’t you say it’s free in the 1st class lounge? There are no ‘vendors’. Also; The margin on food is HUGE (despite the low retail price) at Augusta National during the Masters. Again; the perceived subsidy is absorbed by merch sales at ANGC. No merch in 1st class lounge.

@JadedDeveloper @DavidAstinWalsh Radios explain operational failures, but not strategic failures. The French high command made numerous blunders (like failing to defend the Ardennes when their whole plan depended upon it) that can't be explained by any kind of equipment deficiency.

The amazing thing reading about the Battle of France is that at the tactical level the French were more than a match for the Germans. The French 1st and 7th Armies did reasonably well in northern and central Belgium. But their high command was inflexible and incompetent.
Isi Breen@isaiah_bb

As I continue to read more about WW2, I have to admit, my opinion of the French Army has only gone down. The Wermacht was such an absolute clown show, it’s insane they beat the French, and in the way they did.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Gen David Shoup, the USMC CMC, briefed the JCS and imposed an image of little Tarawa -- where 3K Marines were lost including 1K KIA -- over a slide of Cuba to show the costs of war. We are no longer a serious country. x.com/JenGriffinFNC/…
Jennifer Griffin@JenGriffinFNC

Our report. Fast facts: Kharg Island 12 sq mi. Iwo Jima 8 sq mi. 70,000 Marines stormed Iwo Jima, nearly 7000 killed, 20,000 injured. MEU has 2500 Marines, 800 infantry. foxnews.com/video/63915642…

@shanewallick @Lusterpl @harrisondubay Cinder block construction is only a little more expensive that wood in initial capital cost, with lower ongoing maintenance costs. The real reason is that it's simply faster for developers to build with wood than cement, and North America's building code favors wood.

I defer to my brethren from the Navy's Army, but is it a good idea to seize an island in a contained body of water on the other side of a maritime chokepoint we currently do not/ cannot traverse?

@shytleh @Hoffman8Jon @CatoInstitute Bombing the Iranian leadership provides *greater* incentive for them to develop nukes, not less. Meanwhile the only achievable way to stop them from developing a nuke is permanent occupation with tens of thousands of troops at a minimum.

@Hoffman8Jon @CatoInstitute Hey, can you add a paragraph outlining that you think it's OK for Iran to have nukes? If your feedback all but assures that, you should own it.

My latest with @CatoInstitute. It is time to face reality: tactical successes cannot mask what has quickly become another strategic failure in the Middle East. Washington has proved incapable or unwilling to learn from its past mistakes in the region. cato.org/blog/strategic…

@SenatorBrophy @Rory_Johnston A ban on exports would secure supply, but it wouldn't keep oil affordable unless the government also implements price controls like we did in WW2.

@Rory_Johnston I am irresponsibly long oil, but I think you are underestimating Trump’s capacity to jack with markets. Ban exports of oil and products? America first might mean keep our gas prices low, screw Europe.

I think that a big part of the reason that people still think Trump will be in for the Iran War long haul is that they don’t appreciate how truly, insanely unhinged the energy market is about to get if this doesn’t end soon.

@bonchieredstate The USA was also militarily dominant over the Taliban at the operational level. Yet Afghanistan was still a strategic defeat.

US/Israeli military dominance over Iran has been as decisive as any conflict in history to this point. It's been that lopsided. Anyone saying otherwise is lying. You can disagree with this conflict without turning your brain into mush in the process.

@bobbylaw4 @Stapes These are the same arguments people made in favor of invading Afghanistan and Iraq. "Don't you support our troops? Don't you dislike Saddam using chemical weapons against civilians and the Taliban oppressing women? Then how can you oppose operations against those evil guys?"

@Kalifornika @Osinttechnical @ItsTheEnforcer Are you arguing that this isn't happening, or that it shouldn't be happening? Anyway, how can you tell if a radar blip is a USV or a fishing boat? It's difficult to stop this unless the US burns down every coastal village and civilian boat in Iran.

@spinky32513 @Rory_Johnston The Houthis disrupted shipping on the Red Sea for five months (with ~2,000 ships diverted around Africa instead of transiting the Red Sea) with MUCH less firepower than Iran has. That's the whole point of asymmetric warfare, after all.

REAL TALK FAM. As a Persian Gulf Naval Combat veteran who has survived the following: 1) An Antiship missile duel (we sank the Iranian Navy missile boat but it missed us by 150ft) 2) Sailing into a minefield to help save a Frigate that was sinking 3) Chased high speed IRGC boats 4) Attacked by Iranian F-4 fighter jet (we shot it down) It was … 5) Hitting the WW2 style moored SEA MINE planted in secret that sucked the most & did the most damage. Our helicopter carrier was put out of commission. I can say 100% confidence that if Iran has gone back to 1985-1988 tactics the PG will be very hot very fast. The SOH won’t reopen anytime soon if that’s what what.

@Chennault20 @OzKaterji Rational analysts . . . 1) Aren't very excited about killing regime officials when Trump's plan is to negotiate a better nuclear deal with those regime officials. 2) Care a lot about crude oil going to $150-200/barrel by late June.

@OzKaterji Did the NYT reveal their sources? It’s been 7 days & 50 leaders of the Islamic Regime of Iran have been taken out yet there is a rush to judgment. Highly doubt you had the Ayatollah Khamenei being taken out in under 7 and their AF & Navy. The low regard from EU accounts is gross
