On a request from state government authorities, an IAF Mi 17 V5 of Central Air Command (CAC) was deployed to rescue two stranded children, who were stuck on top of a water tank in Sidharth Nagar in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The children were stranded in the night as the ladder of the water tank was damaged. The rescue mission, yet again, displays the IAF's professionalism and commitment to save lives with a swift response in times of need. 🇮🇳 #CAC #IAF
Campbell Bay runway, at Great Nicobar island, India’s southern most tip , was inaugrated in 1989 to handle the fixed wing aircraft, before that this naval strip was used for helicopters. I am privileged to be the first pilot to land a fixed wing aeroplane with by my CnC here. I pulled out my log book and the date was 21 May 1989. Three decades plus later it is in news again. Great Nicobar expansion to house both commercial and military infrastructure is a game changer in the IndoPacific for us. Setting up tri service capabilities here will boost deployment & surveillance, while proximity to Malacca Strait secures vital sea lanes. A 3300 mtr runway will enable heavy lift & fighter ops extending reach to Sunda & Lombok. As China pushes its ‘string of pearls,’ this project in Nicobar will be our counter dual use hub for trade ,transhipment & defence purposes. #Security
