AI tools are making scientists more productive: those who use AI are publishing ~3x more papers and earning nearly 5x more citations. However, the authors of a recent @Nature paper note that this is also triggering a "paradox." They scanned 41.3 million papers and found that AI-augmented work tends to cluster in data-rich areas, covering 4.63% fewer topics and showing 22% less engagement between scientists.
