When I was a young Soldier in Afghanistan, we used to get rocketed daily. I’m pretty sure we were one of the more heavily targeted areas in the country during the time, with 6-12 rockets landing on our tiny combat outpost daily, minus Fridays. There was an infantry senior NCO on the COP that would always be the last guy into the bunker. He would always make sure that all us young guys got in first and then he would come in. One day, he was directing Soldiers into the bunker and getting accountability and he just froze. 10 feet from the bunker. All the color drained from his face and he just stopped talking and moving. Three of his guys went out and grabbed him and brought him in. That night, they put him on a helicopter and I never saw him again. This guy had been on multiple deployments. Multiple firefights. He was well regarded. He was a good NCO. Everyone has a breaking point. I often wonder how he is doing these days.

Every day I watch the chaos in this country and think about how many people got it completely wrong on Joe Biden, especially Democrats and the media. Democrats turned on him and bought into a manufactured narrative, while the press trashed stability, mocked experience, and helped normalize a convicted felon… and now act like none of it happened. A lot of people owe him an apology. Anyone else feel this anger? 🤷

Reminder: Obama sent $14 BILLION to Iran days after Iran injured 200+ Americans and killed many others. Oops, never mind, that was Trump this week. “The United States is allowing Iran to collect $14 billion in oil revenue.” Where is the outrage MAGA?

Trump is the dumbest man alive. Start a war with no purpose in mind, no end in site, and no exit plan. Then because you fucked up, remove sanctions on your enemies, enrich that enemy and allow them to have money to attack our troops. Never in the history of mankind has there been a more ignorant leader than Trump

So to recap: •Trump illegally bombed Iran. •Iran responded by closing the Straight of Hormuz, thus spiking oil prices. •Trump is now responding by lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, thus funding the regime he's bombing—all as the Straight of Hormuz remains closed. So in short, Trump bombed Iran, raised oil prices for Americans, and gave Iran more money. Masterful gambit by the author of the Art of the Deal. Are we great yet?

The oil the US is allowing iran to sell is too small to stabilize energy markets, but it is large enough to help iran fight the war & raise its price for ending it. truly misguided. open.substack.com/pub/richardhaa…

When Obama sent Iran $400m + $1.3bn in interest in 2016 Trump called it "insane" and he and others spent a decade mocking the idea of "pallets of cash" even though it was Iran's own money, American prisoners were released, courts were likely to require the U.S. payment, and Iran had just agreed to significant and verified reductions and restrictions on its nuclear program for 15+ years. Now Trump is giving Iran up to ten times that amount of revenue--one of the most significant measures of sanctions relief provided to the Islamic Republic since its founding--in exchange for marginal and temporary relief from the big increase in oil prices his actions have caused, without any concessions from Tehran, and even as Iran continues to target the United States, its allies, and world oil supplies. No way to read as anything other than desperate recognition of the situation Trump's own actions have created and the lack of available alternatives for dealing with it.

🚨U.S. to allow Iran to get ~14 billion dollars (!!!) in oil revenue 🚨This is a huge financial concession to Iran by the U.S. 🚨It is the first time U.S. is buying Iranian oil since 1996 🚨It's all happening in the middle of a war against...Iran

@ScottBachm2692 @MarkWarner The money is going to the regime regardless of what the administration tells you. It's a straight up lie. Iran just sold oil to China, and now that it's unsanctioned, there's no reason China can't pay Iran for the oil without repercussions. How is the money not going to Iran?

I remember when my Republican colleagues blasted Barack Obama over $400M tied to hostages and an old debt with Iran. Now, under Donald Trump, sanctions relief on 140M barrels of Iranian oil could net Tehran up to $15 BILLION — while the U.S. is at war. Where’s the outrage now?

The TSA should be abolished, and each airport should have their own security. Left-wingers want everything to be state-run, but the lack of efficiency, especially during lapses in appropriations, is all the more proof that government-run services suck and most things need to be privatized.

I am currently in Houston on my way to a book event in Florida. I am hearing horror stories from passengers caught up in the Democratic shutdown. It is outrageous that these members are continuing to receive their pay while these federal employees cannot support their families...

Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was an inspiring leader and a source of encouragement for students at my Service Academy Night last year. His passion for the ODU Army ROTC program and his commitment to mentoring the next generation of Army leaders were truly unmatched. A decorated Army aviator and proud ODU alumnus, he dedicated his life to serving our nation and investing in young people. My prayers are with his family, his students, and the entire ODU community as we mourn this tragic loss. May he rest in peace. 🇺🇸

It’s natural to form an attitude to AI inspired by a (very understandable) suspicion of big tech companies, and a wariness about being caught falling for their hype. But often that skepticism doesn't discriminate between “this technology is hugely important and impressive”, and “this will be great for everyone”. The result is that these perspectives, mostly from the political left, are opting out of making serious plans for a world where AI is enormously more powerful. But you can both be very impressed by AI *as a technology*, and very skeptical of Pollyannaish stories around it!
Rutger Bregman@rcbregman

I'm increasingly annoyed by how many journalists, academics and large parts of the left get everything wrong about AI. So many smug dismissals from people who clearly don't use it (much) or don't know how. I have multiple wtf-moments every week now. For example: was about to get a $100 teleprompter app with voice-recognition yesterday. But had a last minute thought: 'hm, let's ask Claude Code'. For context: I've never written a line of code in my life. But I was able to give Claude two rambling prompts – 2 minutes later: it works better than the fancy $100 software with 'Patented VoiceTrack technology'. Most surreal technology experience I ever had. And it's all moving so much faster than I expected. Even the so-called "AI skeptics" in the industry now think we'll have AGI within a decade. 'AGI' is not a very clear or even coherent concept to me, but I do know that what's available now is just f*cking impressive - and it will only get better. It's totally unserious to keep dismissing the greatest technological revolution of our time. Sticking your fingers in your ears – 'it must be BS because it comes out of Silicon Valley and these Huns haven't read Marx or Adorno' – is not helping anyone.
