Meta laying off 10% of staff when revenue is at an all-time high, revenue growth is a beast (33% YoY!!), profits at an all-time high: just depressing These layoffs are not because Meta needs to lay off, but because Zuck wanted to lay off for whatever reason

Friends, yes we give #RWRI male scholarships. But they require need for economic adjustment; hard to justify assisting a NY banker. 1) Self employed 2) Unemployed 3) Countries w/low ppp (India, Africa,) 4) War torn places 5) Squid ink cooks 6) Italians w/a sense of humor
Nassim Nicholas Taleb@nntaleb

Friends, women scholarships are available for #RWRI 21 summer school (June 29- July 10, online). We gave an average of 80% scholarships to qualified women so far (and up to 99% for some).

@JohnFriedman1 @NYCMayor @GovKathyHochul Are you actually that dumb? Those charts are from separate years. Even if we assume they can be used together the math works out to $75k salary for each person that left NY. And the average is probably skewed even lower. It wasn’t taxes on their second home lol

Urbanity/vibrant culture/walkability and nature/wilderness/agriculture aren't meant to be completely apart from each other. For nearly the entire history of human settlement (with unusual exceptions) the vast majority of humans lived proximate to both wilderness and community.

@nntaleb As a senior machine learning engineer with 10+ years of xp and a bunch of successful high impact projects under my belt, I’m assuming I will be opening up a bakery in the next 5 years — the work will unreasonably dull or the work will be for those higher up the skill chain.

Is AI different? In the past technologies (dishwashers, word processors, etc.) moved workers up the added value scale, w/productivity at the bottom. AI is moving lawyers, editors, radiologists into lower value jobs: Uber drivers, waiters... Gains are going to technofeudalists

Maybe try to add some loaded hikes and your leg power/strength/core will go trough the roof, I could not believe my run power after almost 1.5 years of this with no injuries at all 🤞 For me was a fun way to still be outdoors do some cardio and work the strength training a different way (or actually on top of the indoor GYM work)

Strength vs Endurance Over the next ~26 weeks I’ll be swinging the pendulum back towards strength I’ve demonstrated the ability to swing towards being endurance optimized, will be interesting to see how I tolerate the swing back and the sort of gains that result I’m doing the @MtnTactical SF55 program Alpha/Bravo/Charlie Sample session in the pics

Republicans against Trump
Republicans against Trump@RpsAgainstTrump·
Trump crashed the stock market, crashed the bond market, tanked the world economy, and told us the U.S. would pay off the national debt with the trillions made from his tariffs. He even said on Monday he wouldn’t do a deal with the EU based on zero tariffs — and now, all of a sudden, he caves like a real Panican, even though nothing actually changed. And now you have the White House Press Secretary trying to gaslight the American people, spinning Trump as some genius and master dealmaker. This is beyond ridiculous. No one’s buying it. The world isn’t buying it. We’ve lost our credibility because of Trump’s insane, volatile decision-making.

The US House has voted 243-140-1 to sanction anyone associated with the International Criminal Court's efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any "protected person" of the US and its allies — namely, Israel. 45 Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the bill.

The cyclist friend of mine switched to 11-36 (Shimano) but is still no way near the "granny gear" needed for mountains. Has anyone tried replacing the front 50/34 with smthg like */30 in a Di2 compatible way? The gear ratio 30/36 should help with the Lebanese mountains.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb@nntaleb

This cyclist friend of mine (who usually asks me to post for him on X*; he is shy) was asked by the brother in law of his cousin's barber if switching from an 11-34 Di2 cassette to an 11-36 one improves mountainous rides on unpaved terrain. * Formerly Twitter

There is an apocryphal story abt. Alexander the Great and a pirate named Diomedes. Once captured, Diomedes was presented to Alexander. He asked him who gave him the right to sail the seas and plunder ships? Diomedes retorted: Since I just have my boat, I am a pirate. And you, with a navy and army, you are a king.

@Alan_Couzens When people don't feel heard they go to great lengths to make themselves heard. Generally people need to get away from the parties. Don't let them tell you what to think. Be nuanced individuals. Painting every issue in this side/that side is a big part of our current problem.

I don't generally like to post about politics. I think there's already too much talk about it and, to be frank, I find the whole thing to be largely a bunch of B.S. In regular times, the economy moves in cycles and politics is largely about pointing out these cycles and taking credit for the good stuff, while pushing the blame onto the other side for the bad stuff. When, in the long run, the influence that each had was typically marginal at best. Things changed for me on January 6th. I was scared. Like legitimately scared. They would have killed Pence if they got hold of him & probably others. I don't see how you can look back at the footage and not think that.... and then what? And the reason I'm still scared is because nothing has changed. His attitude is still that the election was stolen and he is still non-apologetic towards what happened. For these reasons, I just don't see a situation where the whole thing doesn't replay. Is there any case where you can visualize... "Yeah, good game, you beat me fair and square" and a peaceful transition of power whether now, 4 years from now, 8 years from now, ever?? It is a real deal scary situation, for me at least, to look forward to each transition of power moving forward. I don't post this to try and influence anyone, just in the spirit of openness and trying to understand where each "sides" head is at. That's where mine is at, a genuine fear that Jan 6th will happen again and that the democracy as a whole might fall.

This is a feature of all Blue Zones — and of other places with long-living people. Hong Kong is fast-paced, urban, and hectic, but rivals Japan for the world’s highest life expectancy (it ranked number 1 in 2023). Central Hong Kong is filled with these interconnected walkways so you can walk everywhere, even in the middle of a raging monsoon! Singapore (in the top 5) also has interconnected walkways (which are underground rather than overground).
Dan Go@CoachDanGo

An underrated cheat code for better health is living in a walkable environment. Walking to get coffee, hike, go to the gym, or even grab a meal is one of the best silent health luxuries no one talks about.

@danielsnotebook @nntaleb Yes! I've been telling this to people since I first visited France. I didn't speak French well at all, but I tried and please, thank you, hello -- all go a long way to being a decent visitor. If the French are mean to you as a visitor, it's possible that you're not a nice visitor

@nntaleb In some senses Paris is one of the best models for this. There has always been an impression amongst the English that Parisians are rude. Once you make the attempt to express yourself in French, the entire landscape changes.

This would be the greatest blunder of US foreign policy since the Vietnam War, if done before Palestinian leadership rescinds publicly the War of Return. It would make it easier for Hamas to operate from the "liberated territories", will therefore necessitate greater presence of IDF in the WB, and will thus increase hostilities and suffering for civilian populations on both sides. Don't!!! @EinatWilf @Ostrov_A
Eugene Kontorovich@EVKontorovich

Reports indicate Biden imminently poised to declare Palestinian state with Capital in Jerusalem. Hamas's Al Aqsa storm has worked. Stunning and heartbreaking to see the U.S. take Palestinians' side. And what happens when the the new State launches an even bigger attack?
