@AceMcWicked I’ve seen it from a health angle too - the social benefit of our favourite social lubricant (in moderation) offsets the health costs of the drinking. It’s not to say we couldn’t find other ways to facilitate socialisation; but first we need to get off our phones.

This mainly just 'popular people are more successful that unpopular people' but it's not surprising you people need to hear this again, but framed differently

@GergelyOrosz I’m reminded of someone asking “but what if I say ‘make it maintainable’?” trying to do the right thing, but not understanding why that won’t work.

The "I just need to prompt the AI to do what I need" does a lot of heavy lifting here - don't sleep on it "what I need" is the difference between a professional with in-depth expertise able to spell out the next small/medium-sized task. Versus an amateur prompting "make it work"
Deedy@deedydas

A few software engineers at some of the best tech cos told me this week "My entire job these days is prompting Cursor or Claude Code with Opus 4.5 to do what I need and sanity checking it." We've crossed some intangible threshold of AI generalizing to "most" software.

@asmartbear Por que no los dos? The former is better for judging the health of your acquisition systems, the latter is better for judging the health of the company, benchmarking against peers, and reporting to potential investors.

Should CAC be computed as “cost to acquire customers that we paid for,” or is CAC “total cost to acquire divided by all new customers?” The former holds direct-marketing more accountable, but why shouldn’t you count brand and earned word-of-mouth?

@mitchellh It would be good to explain this framing in the readiest/contributor guide too IMO.

I'm beginning to close PRs for unsolicited changes I don't want to maintain with: "Thanks, I'm not interested in the transfer of maintenance for this to us, but I'm happy to see you're maintaining this for personal use in your fork. Enjoy." 🫡

@ChShersh @neetcode1 Is this the best or only way to determine whether an engineer is worth hiring? The problem’s not leetcode, is using leetcode in recruitment.

@neetcode1 Agree. You memorise things. You repeat them many times. Suddenly, your brain starts seeing corrections and unveiling a deeper understanding.

Anti-LeetCode people be like, “You don’t need to memorise algorithms and data structures. You only need to understand their use cases, edge cases, time and memory complexity, expected behaviour and high-level concepts to be able to reimplement and modify them if needed.”

can someone explain why you’d ever put computers anywhere off planet? the only reason seems to me to be the far future one where we’re dumping too much waste heat into the earth system which is very far off

@mtxpost @leothrix Go find the post by the Bun creator asking why LLM engineers can’t make them 1000x faster by applying lessons from video games. I can’t tell if it’s rage bait or epic hubris.

I just want a modern, well-maintained programming language that's performant, provides low-level facilities for systems programming, doesn't force me to manage memory, has a strong and expressive type system, and interops with C Rust reply = blocked

I’ve honestly seen this so many times and my main take away from it is I’m not sure I know what haemorrhoids actually are because, like, I know they go around the basic arse region, but do people get surgery for them? I thought they were big pimples.
