@QuentinFry They almost certainly have a third term in the bad. They should use this budget to start taking the electorate on the journey over next 2 years to have a bolder election platform IMO. Libs should do the same. Need to recognise the societal shift we’re facing.

@snrsnap I do think Chalmers has genuine desire, but as you say there's so much compromising with vested interests it ends up not doing what is says on the box, with other derivative consequences. Have to see the detail Tuesday of course...

I'd have far more respect for them if they just said there's too much speculative malinvestment, especially in particular unproductive asset classes, and that needs to be curtailed through the tax system. Just don't give me this 'intergenerational equity' BS. 😅🙄 #auspol
Quentin Fry@QuentinFry

@AvidCommentator The 'intergenerational equity' spin seriously risks them getting stuck. We accept the unfairness if the boomers had something (defined benefit pensions, free uni etc) the young no longer do. But with the CGT discount somehow it's a big win for the young if withdrawn. Come on. 😅

Israelis immediately investigated & punished the delinquents esp as Israelis have Christians in the IDF ... meanwhile the very same media trying to stir outrage here were noticeably silent when Christians were being beheaded by 'moderate rebels' Daesh on YouTube
Israel Defense Forces@IDF

A short while ago, in full coordination with the local community of Debel in southern Lebanon, the damaged statue was replaced by IDF troops. The Northern Command worked to coordinate the replacement of the statue from the moment it received the report of the incident. The IDF expresses deep regret over the incident, and is working to ensure that it does not happen again in the future.

Imagine undermining the prestige of the office so badly that footage shared by POTUS now needs to include the “unverified” disclaimer.

@MattPrider @latikambourke @profsarahj It’s not needed. It’s a self inflicted own goal by US and Israel, and 100% not a fight for us to deploy to. We have a DEFENCE force, an actual global threat on our regional doorstep, and nothing in our toolkit that will contribute materially to keeping the straight open.

@snrsnap @latikambourke @profsarahj Well they are paid for by us for this exact purpose. Not much point having a military if you don’t use it when needed. It’s not all easy stuff like putting tarps on peoples roofs.

@MattPrider @latikambourke @profsarahj I just don’t understand why Iran would do such a thing. Completely unprompted. Out of nowhere. At least US and Israel are respecters of International Law and would never target civilian energy infrastructure!! We should definitely put Australian troops and ships in harms way!!!!!

@latikambourke @profsarahj We should be sending ships and planes rather than signing paperwork to laws that no one obeys. Every country that uses/needs that oil should be offering a boot to stick deep up Iran’s arse. Most is not from Iran.

@cracckman @sentdefender He makes it clear he believes the Iraq War was a result of manipulation by Israel. The fight against ISIS is/was a direct consequence of that.

The Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joseph Kent, has resigned effective immediately stating "I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby." Kent was nominated by President Trump in February of 2025 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 30th.

@dannolan It’s not very typical. I’d like to make that point. There are a lot of these ships going around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen.

@gearside More an issue for the Nats than Libs. And in the current cluster shambles that is the federal coalition - it’s a fourth order issue at best.

@GrayConnolly How careless then to send such an important state into chaos with apparently no concrete transition plan nor willingness or plan for involvement outside of a few days.

US & Israel can strike Iran, decapitate leadership, "mow the grass" etc but it is for Iranians to overthrow the Mullahs regime - and if Iranians do not, then a deal will have to be made with who in the regime is left as Iran (100m+ in centre of world) is too important for chaos
Gray Connolly@GrayConnolly

My foundational view of Iran's situation we all monitor is, as always, that nothing good happens unless the Artesh (the Iranian armed forces) turns their guns on the Mullahs Regime & the IRGC ... or refuses to crush the protesters. A military coup needed. Very happy to be wrong🦁

Australia’s endorsement of this action is inconsistent with our obligations under the UN Charter and the principle that the rules-based order applies equally to all states. The Prime Minister should not be supporting it. Advocating for the human rights and democratic freedoms of the Iranian (or any) people does not mean supporting illegal acts that increase risk to the people, the country, the region and the world. Often, we need only ask what the response would be if the roles were reversed - and Australia would certainly not support these actions against ally States. These double standards undermine both international law and Australia’s credibility. This action violates: 1.UN Charter Articles 2(4) and 51 — no armed attack occurred and no imminent threat existed, given a diplomatic breakthrough on IAEA verification was announced less than 24 hours earlier; 2.The Declaration on Friendly Relations (1970) and Definition of Aggression (1974) — bombardment with the stated objective of regime change constitutes aggression; 3.International Humanitarian Law — with reports of strikes on a girls’ school killing at least 85 children and over 200 dead; and 4.The Nuremberg Principles — aggressive war is the supreme international crime. Any response by Iran must also abide by humanitarian law and avoid targeting civilians. In sport meanwhile, FIFA is bound to support international law, has continually rewarded Trump and is now supporting violations against a World Cup participant while the justifications are almost identical to those given by Russia for Ukraine, for which almost immediate sanctions were imposed. Australians should be very clear that support for, or participation in violations of international law make Australia a target and increase risks to all Australians. While politicians often state they ‘don’t want to bring violence here’, they directly support those committing it — through weapons parts, funding, intelligence, statements. This is both illogical, and dangerous. Australia should support the fundamental rights of all people while remaining a consistent voice for equal application of international law. This keeps both us, and the world, safer.

@altere_ @AntonyGreenElec @Terri_1987a It’s not baffling at all. They’re using old poll results that didn’t ask about nats because it is a lib seat and up until recently the coalition parties rarely contest the same seat to avoid 3 sided campaigns.
