Two weeks without mobile internet improved mental health more than antidepressants and reversed roughly 10 years of attentional decline. Screen time dropped 49% (314 to 161 min/day).

ever since we found out the whole 10K steps thing was a made up number, I've wondered what the actual step count number is that matters For mortality - It seems like the number is between 5-7K depending on smoking status/weight, and after that it's marginal. From a life insurance analysis that looked at UK biobank data

Weird that @PCski hasn’t Tweeted since December 2, after previously being quite prolific. @VailResorts isn’t even hiding that they’ve given up on Park City.

I’ll stay as Executive Chairman at @CarbonHealth and continue overseeing our product and tech. A change I’m genuinely excited about is bringing our COO @kozkay as the new CEO. He deserved this job 3x over. He may not be a household name yet but he’ll be one. He has delivered on every impossible mission we gave him. I’ll be his close advisor.

Hi everyone. A little bit of personal news. After 8 years, I’m returning @udemy with an operating role as CTO. Udemy is my first baby. It has a special place in my heart and I was always on the board so never disconnected from the company.

This is one of the greatest displays of the creative process I've seen. John Mayer perfectly demonstrates something that many of my favorite artists all say: You become creative by creating. "You just keep going 'til you get something," Mayer says/sings. "You gotta keep forcing it, forcing it, forcing it…it doesn’t matter [what comes out of your mind/mouth].” Dr. Andrew Huberman talks about how the brain circuits that turn on before those involved in creativity are of the stress system. I've heard him use 3 analogies to explain this. 1) It’s like you have to wade through sewage before you can swim in clear water. 2) It’s like when you try to lift your max on the bench press—it takes time to work up to that weight. 3) It’s like your best creative work is on the other side of a door at the top of a staircase—it takes time and effort to get up the stairs and through that door. In other words, Dr. Huberman says, you become more creative the more you create. Many artists talk similarly about what Mayer refers to in the clip as "ouija boarding" (just sort of spitting out words and sounds). John Legend says his songs start with what he calls “the mumble track.” “It’s just me humming and mumbling nonsense,” he said. Judd Apatow says his movie scripts are all a product of the Down-Up theory: “Get the ideas DOWN then fix them UP.” “Give yourself permission to suck," Judd says. "Anything goes. Just get something down.” Even if it’s nonsense, he says. Keep forcing it, forcing it, forcing it. - - - Before I started writing online, I told Ryan Holiday I was just waiting to know for certain what I wanted to write about. “Just start," he said. "You’re trying to map out the whole 9 innings. Just throw the first pitch…You’re better off starting imperfectly than being paralyzed by the delusion of perfection.” Rather than being paralyzed by the delusion that creativity comes to you, you're better off "forcing it, forcing it, forcing it," as Mayer said. "Go get it from the universe." Follow @bpoppenheimer for more content like this!

@lindsaymeyer There could and should definitely be more investment and research on Meniere's, tinnitus and other ear issues. I hope you are doing well in managing your own hearing issues. Thank you for reading!

I woke up on Nov. 7, 2021, to find my life forever changed, and the time since has been disorienting and humbling. I never write about my personal life - it's not really in my nature - but I have wanted to share this story and finally found the words. nyti.ms/3ZRZEhl

@balajis A derivative of altitude is “outdoor culture” - hiking, biking, running, skiing - which would explain the correlation?

Does altitude somehow prevent obesity? The correlation is remarkable, because you can see it not just in the Mountain West but along the Appalachians in the East as well.

@balajis the correlation with altitude is interesting

Decided to do some work today after slicing my foot in the lake. Used @solvhealth to check in while bleeding on the floor in the waiting room. Not sure how accurate that intake was. Result: 6 stitches. Follow up will be interesting in Vegas, but I'll need the stitches out.

Quick story: a Solver was recently overcharged $325, even when she knew the right questions to ask! For many Americans, that would have been devastating to their bank account...it’s a case study on the backwardness in healthcare -- and how it doesn’t need to be this way! 🧵
