🚨🗣️ Jamie Carragher on how Atlético Madrid were “robbed,” pointing to the two penalties that weren’t awarded and explaining how the IFAB rules support those decisions: “Listen, I’ve been in this game a long time, played in some of the biggest nights in Europe but what we’ve just witnessed at the Emirates is an absolute DISGRACE. Atlético Madrid have been ROBBED blind in this Champions League semi-final, and if you’re an Arsenal fan celebrating right now, you should be embarrassed. The laws of the game are crystal clear, and they’ve been twisted into knots to protect the home side. This isn’t refereeing, this is scripting! First off, Gabriel’s blatant shirt-pull and yank on Giuliano Simeone, that’s a STONEWALL penalty under IFAB Law 12, plain and simple. Holding an opponent, impeding their progress, especially when the lad’s clean through on an empty net? It’s a direct free-kick in the box, it’s DOGSO, and in half these cases it’s a red card too. VAR had every angle, Daniel Siebert and his German crew looked at it… and waved it away? Come on! If that was Saka or anyone in an Arsenal shirt, it’s given in a heartbeat. That’s not ‘not clear and obvious’, that’s officials hiding behind the screen to keep Arsenal in the tie. Robbery. Pure and simple. Then Griezmann gets clattered in the box by Calafiori, reckless challenge, Law 12 again, careless or excessive force, penalty all day long. They invent some phantom ‘prior foul’ nonsense to bail them out? VAR protocol doesn’t work like that! You’re meant to check the specific incident, not rewrite the build-up to favour the big Premier League club. Atlético are creating chance after chance, fighting with more heart than I’ve seen from some of these Arsenal players, and they get NOTHING. Soft calls one way, ignored shouts the other, time-wasting ignored, it’s one-way traffic from the whistle. it’s not fair, it’s not right, and it’s a stain on the competition. Diego Simeone’s men deserve better than this. ¡ROBO! The football world is watching, and we all see it. What a joke.”

🚨🗣️ | Paul Scholes on Arsenal NOT deserving to WIN the League: “Look, I love seeing Manchester City drop points as much as anyone, but first of all, football has to be fair. Thierno Barry’s first goal should have been offside, simple. We cannot talk about integrity only when it suits us. If City are going to slip, it should be through proper football, not poor decisions. And honestly, if Arsenal win the league at this point, it won’t feel like they were the best team, it’ll feel like the rest of the league has just been awful. Too many teams dropping standards, too many favors, too much luck falling their way, Credit to Arsenal for taking advantage, but let’s not act like luck hasn’t played a huge part too. if they actually go on to win it I will say it straight to their faces: it is not going to be because they are the best team in England. No chance. It is simply because the rest of the teams in the league are absolutely awful right now. It is a league of massive underperformers. Liverpool is dropping silly points, United is rebuilding for the hundredth time, Chelsea is a mess, and now City is getting robbed by bad decisions. Arsenal are not playing this incredible, untouchable football that people want to pretend they are playing. They are just getting lucky, and luckier, week after week. You watch their games teams are missing open goals against them, the referees are handing them favors or punishing their rivals, and the other top clubs are constantly tripping over their own feet. The consistency from the big teams this year is zero. Arsenal is just the team making the fewest stupid mistakes in a season full of them. That is not being a team of greatness. That is just surviving a terrible year for English football. If Martin Ødegaard and Saka lift that trophy in May, they don't need to tell us how brilliant they are. They need to look up to the sky, thank the football gods for their unbelievable luck, and send a thank-you card to the rest of the league for being so incredibly poor”
