@AFineBlogger @MTA @NYC_DOT I don’t think you understand catch basins then. This is climate change. Not bike infrastructure money concerns. And if you want to actually do anything about climate change, investing in more bikes and peds over just cars would be wise.

Every week, nearly 500,000 cars violate street cleaning regulations, preventing us from sweeping more than 3000 miles of streets. YOUR street suffers when SOMEONE ELSE breaks the rules. We HATE that! We want to keep New York City clean, and you do too - right? Yesterday, the New York City Council voted YES on new state legislation to help us do our jobs. Now we need Albany to act!

@EricsRambles Sinkholes are terrible but do happen, regardless of administration. And DOT pothole budget is ~$300M w large-scale street resurfacing part of multi-billion-dollar Capital Plans. Bike funding per year is far, far less costly & requires far less maintenance. Both are key to safety.

Delightful and ridiculously cute start to my day with Greenpoint’s Bike Bus to school this morning. So much admiration for how this community comes together for safer streets and the public realm.

@dahvnyc Fine, then move the bike path to Chambers and get rid of the one on Warren. We don't need bike expressways on every single street.

@subtle116 @buildingbulldog @samkbloch 48 NYers also died but it meant this guy had to go to a different park for 3 years before he got a new one back. So who can really say what’s worse?

Shame on NYC Parks, NYC EDC, Mathews Nielsen, and everyone else involved in designing this new playground at Pier 42 in East River Park, which isn't just hotter than the rest of the neighborhood but dangerous for everyone in weather like this

@buildingbulldog @samkbloch I mean now its fine, but it cost $20B in damage and more than than to repair in NYC. Crux of that whole park renovation was to build a better sea wall.

Equity in infrastructure is not a construction event. Crosswalks fade. Signals go dark. Posts get hit. In communities with political power, repairs happen fast. In others, decay becomes normal.

@DannyInTransit @chayesmatthew I once asked an MTA worker if I could have the old wayfinding sign they were replacing at the time. They same it’s MTA property and then chose to bend it and shove it in a garbage bag. Real shame because it costs nothing to build good will to the public.

@DubW70944448 @EricsRambles Agree that Crumbling roads need to be repaired. And sounds like that’s what the state will do. “The agency will instead monitor the state of the bridges and make repairs when necessary.” Widening is a different battle entirely.

@EricsRambles I don't think they're against repairing them. They're against expansion. Two different things. There's no zealotry here, just residents concerned about the negative externalities of highway construction, which are very real.

When I use the phrase "anti-car zealots," this is what I mean. Imagine cheering on crumbling bridges because you hate cars. These people have a mental illness and they are heavily influencing our transportation policy.
Streetsblog New York City@StreetsblogNYC

NY State is stopping plans to repair and widen 5 bridges along the Cross Bronx Expressway after a long fight with local residents who objected to the plan on the grounds that a wider highway would bring even more cars and traffic to a noted asthma alley. buff.ly/LmkLGeX

@NYCDOTProjects Flagging for @eanorv. Still crazy how long these things take but setting a ped plaza in stone is good for future. This could be what Washington-Empire plaza becomes or maybe even a type of path forward on Lincoln btwn Ocean/Flatbush.
