BMC on Tuesday removed all speed breakers and levelled uneven road stretches along the route from INS Shikra, Colaba, to the Taj Hotel, Colaba, as two heads of state—Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, were in Mumbai. The roadwork, involved dismantling all speed breakers on the PM’s route and carrying out temporary surface repairs to ensure a smooth passage for the high-level motorcade amid heightened security arrangements.

Was among the first ones to rush to the accident site of Mumbai Metro this afternoon. Quite shocking scenes there. The Mulund Metro incident of Green Line 4 raises crucial questions on work safety and standards. The collapse of the parapet killing one person and injuring three others is not only an eye-opener for all works going on above our heads due to gross negligence but also lack of proper supervision. The local MLA @mihirkotecha has raised serious questions about the ongoing work alleging that proper SOP was not followed during the process. “It has now emerged that today’s incident involved the same contractor whose work had previously been red-flagged for negligence. The Metro’s Chief Safety Officer said that workers mistakenly cut the parapet wall instead of welding and securing it. As per SOPs, such critical work must be carried out under supervision, but no supervisor was present. The weakened structure collapsed nearly 11 hours later," Kotecha said. He said he had identified serious negligence at more than 55 locations along a 2-km strectch of LBS Road a few days ago, documented them with GIS-tagged over 100 photos, and formally requested action against the contractor, raising the matter during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The MMRDA needs to step out and actively get involved in the Metro works rather than just leaving it to consultants and teams.

Those responsible for the Mumbai Metro accident need to be charged with culpable homicide under Section 105 (2) of the BNS. Nothing less. @larsentoubro is the major contractor on Line 4, where the slab fell. Its MD, SN Subrahmanyan, must be named in the FIR. @MMRDAOfficial Director (Projects) Basavaraj Bhadragond and Mumbai Metro Corporation MD @AshwiniBhide must answer what went wrong and how. I will personally file an FIR if the government tries to let those responsible for this murder go scott-free.
