I’ve seen press reports that Iranian missiles are targeting U.S. military bases in the Middle East—putting the lives of thousands of American servicemembers at immediate risk. I’ve asked the Trump administration to give me a classified briefing to lay out the full threat picture, the intelligence behind Iran’s retaliation, and the details, scope, and timeline of any U.S. response. Most importantly, I’ve demanded they lay out exactly what measures they’re taking—right now—to keep our servicemembers safe. The Trump administration should not make the same mistake it made this weekend by launching strikes without giving any details to Congress. The law requires the Trump administration to consult with Congress. The Constitution demands it. And the American people—especially the families of those in harm’s way—deserve nothing less.

Impeach Trump immediately. The president cannot unilaterally declare war on another country without even the slightest pretense of emergency - simply because Netanyahu begged and pleaded him to. That’s the act of a dictator, fighting wars on a whim for personal relationships.

According to the Constitution we are both sworn to defend, my attention to this matter comes BEFORE bombs fall. Full stop.

The Constitution is clear: CONGRESS has the authority to declare war. (Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11). In order to be America First, you must be CONSTITUTION FIRST.

My statement on Donald Trump’s unilateral military action in Iran.

This is reckless, illegal action from the president. He does NOT have the authority to enter us into a war with Iran. He MUST consult Congress. This is not what Americans want. I’m thinking about our troops tonight.

The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.

Dem IL Rep Casten: This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program.  No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress.  This is an unambiguous impeachable offense I’m not saying we have the votes to impeach.  I’m saying that you DO NOT do this without Congressional approval and if Johnson doesn’t grow a spine and learn to be a real boy tomorrow we have a BFing problem that puts our very Republic at risk.

The president will explain his decision live tonight. His decision affects us all not just here in the United States but around the world. This is a somber moment for all of us.
