Well, well, well. Both nodes of the @johnarnold network at CBER are now simultaneously being replaced. Prasad = gone; Szarama = gone. RFK and Makary next. This ain’t a game, dawg.

@tbwester @mike98572986 @DarrenEstes I’m making significant concessions to the FDA. While costs technically shouldn’t factor in, Prasad has suggested they should. And if cost-benefit is considered, the approval is further hard to justify.

@tbwester @mike98572986 @DarrenEstes That wasn't the question. I agree that FDA should stay impartial but the stance that they're taking, whether it's influenced or not, doesnt seem like a bad stance. If you disagree from a cost benefit standpoint, I urge you to show me the math that AMT-130's pros outweigh the cons

@mike98572986 @DarrenEstes Just playing the devil's advocate here. What is wrong with that philosophy, if not shrewd? To give you an extreme example, would you be in favor of the central bank printing $10T to save one life?

@mike98572986 @SRPT true. its just so weird that Marty acts like he is championing this who new framework, and behind closed doors it couldn't be further from the truth.

$qure $clpt $rgnx $sldb If you read his papers and thoughts he basically says a rare disease life isn’t worth saving due to the cost. The entire premise of his thoughts is that it hurts the overall system and therefore should just let them die. That is the entire thesis of Arnold Ventures, Prasad has been paid 4 million dollars from them and this is now his world view, since he has been paid off by them. Makary has also been paid off and now you have some others that have been paid off in the FDA. Basically the whole thesis is that they believe the costs of the rare disease drugs are too high and takes resources away from the overall system and therefore their lives are not worth it. Basically in whole, saying, just let them die, they are a waste of our money and time. @RepAuchincloss @SenRonJohnson @SenRickScott @SenGillibrand @WhiteHouse @FrankLuntz @SusieWiles @BeckyQuick @HDSA @HDBuzzFeed @Help4HDI @adamfeuerstein @laurencurehd

this is the first major mention i've seen of arnold venture's influence on this fda. arnold is said to be have been a major backer of prasad's research (i don't have proof of this, have just been told many times), and as wsj notes, szarama worked at arnold before prasad brought her in. most aren't aware arnold ventures was the major backer of ICER, the group that defines the value of medicines for the UK (which is set at a cap of roughly 30k pounds per human life year). it is also the reason the UK has dropped below basically all other developed countries when it comes to access to rare disease medicines. in short, arnold doesn't believe rare disease medicines are worth it, and it's natural to conclude prasad and others were bringing that philosophy to fda. now it's fine to have that view as a society (as the UK chooses to), but the trump administration represented the opposite, which is to accelerate access to rare disease medicines. wsj.com/opinion/one-ex…

$qure $clpt If you truly gave 2 shits about real world evidence all you would need to do is talk to the patients and the neurologists that are treating them yet your boy Prasad wouldn’t even show up to the Type A meeting to hear them out. Victor Sung who has seen more patients in this trial than any other neurologist was there and you guys clearly didn’t hear him out when the main guy that has an issue with it didn’t even bother to show up.Give me a freaking break man, how can you honestly talk like this. Complete and utter lies. You don’t value real world evidence at all if these are your actions. Do better Marty. You can still fix this catastrophic mistake and be a hero. @RepAuchincloss @SenRonJohnson @SenRickScott @SenGillibrand @WhiteHouse @FrankLuntz @SusieWiles @BeckyQuick @HDSA @HDBuzzFeed @Help4HDI @adamfeuerstein

Just rented a $3 million house in the Smokey Mountains for $400 a night. 6,000 sf. 7 bedrooms 8 baths. The market must be getting absolutely crushed. Is visitor traffic down that much? Too many Airbnbs?

This is a good synopsis of why VP was pushed out. Too bad it is behind a paywall. But high-level summary of reasons: 1) Created a toxic work environment at the FDA and personally threatening employees 2) Ignored all FDA guidances, rules, and norms. He thinks his personal opinion should be THE law - it is not and it is illegal! 3) Vaccine thing - doing RFK Jr.'s bidding 4) Doing opposite of what Makary said FDA is doing - making it easier for sponsors to develop drugs for rare diseases. 5) Being a regulator is very different than being an academic podcaster.

5 lessons from Vinay Prasad’s turbulent tenure at the FDA Prasad brought his convictions to the agency — and reaped chaos. My thoughts on an eventful week for one of the most outspoken people in medicine. statnews.com/2026/03/08/vin…

1:30 P.M. SUNDAY WEATHER UPDATE With plenty of warm, somewhat humid air in place and a weak cold front approaching, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon and evening. The best chance for a storm will be between 5 and 10 p.m. One or two storms could produce strong wind and quarter-size hail, but the tornado risk is zero. Keep in mind that most of you won’t see severe weather, and many won’t see rain at all. I’ll keep you posted.
