A bespoke software revolution? I don't buy it. It'll exist. It already exists. Small consultants and big consulting firms have made custom software for years. It almost always sucks. It’s bloated, confusing, and because the client pays, it’s built wrong in all the ways. Who’s excited about bespoke software? Software makers! Of course they're excited about building bespoke software — that's what they do. X is full of them. Your feed is full of people who love making software talking about making software. Of course they’re excited about the revolution. Echo, echo, echo... Most people don’t like computers. Nobody in tech wants to say that out loud. People tolerate computers. They use them because they have to. Given the choice, most would rather not think about them at all. So when someone suggests that AI means everyone will build their own custom tools, ask who "everyone" is. The three-person accounting firm drowning in client paperwork? They want the paperwork gone, not a new system to maintain. The regional logistics company with 40 trucks? They want the routes optimized, not Joe spouting off about this new system he’s been messing around with. The law firm billing 70-hour weeks? They want leverage on their time, not a software project to design. They don’t hate technology. But building and maintaining their own critical systems isn’t their wheelhouse, regardless of how much faster and easier it’s become. It's another job on top of the job. Will these people use AI? Absolutely, for all sorts of things. Will some outliers go deep and build real custom systems? Sure, but they're almost always people who already had some pull toward software. The curiosity was already there. They were dabblers before. Giving everyone access to software building tools doesn't mean everyone becomes a builder. A powerful excavator doesn't turn a homeowner into a contractor. Most people just want the hole dug by someone else. They don’t want the responsibility either.

BREAKING: Sugars essential for life have been found in pristine asteroid Bennu samples collected by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft. Combined with previous detections of amino acids and nucleobases, we see that life’s ingredients were widespread throughout the solar system: go.nasa.gov/48MTu9i More on the study led by Yoshihiro Furukawa of @TohokuUniPR⤵️

The wild part is not that Trump posted this, it’s that this open call to close the airspace of a UN-recognized sovereign state is, in international law terms, a textbook act of aggression. No legal basis, UN mandate and bilateral agreement, just U.S. president publicly instructing airlines, pilots, and bizarrely, “drug dealers” to treat another country’s airspace as void. This isn’t “foreign policy,” it is a unilateral declaration that U.S. political whims override another nation’s sovereignty. If any non-Western state said this about U.S. airspace, it would be called: an invasion threat. But when Washington does it, the world is expected to pretend it’s normal.

Here’s one reason Apple fought tooth and nail to disallow web payments for apps: Because Apple’s IAP is bad in many ways, and *so many* apps will move to web-based payments now not mainly because of the 30% Apple fee, but because of how bad IAP is. Let me give you examples:

We're replacing our existing Electron apps for Basecamp with a recommendation to use the PWA instead. Chrome and Safari have both nailed the PWA experience, and they update automatically with the browser, so we no longer see the need for Electron. Viva the web!

@MichaelRedev @Cloudways Wild. The same happened to us today. New site was supposed to launch tomorrow. This morning the whole server is suddenly off and we are not even able to log in to our @Cloudways account. Support cannot help; Accounts team does not respond at all, despite sending hourly emails.

Two days ago, @Cloudways shut off my fully-paid-up account for an unpaid invoice. Now they are threatening to do it again. On Monday of this week, my employee was trying to connect to our Cloudways account to setup some new environments for us to start contributing to Five for the Future. Unfortunately, when he went to go access the account, he was not allowed to access the control platform. He was given an error by the system saying that there was an unpaid invoice. The only issue is that the invoice had already been paid. I spent a good amount of time on with Cloudways support and they eventually restored our access. Now, this morning, I once again have a threat from Cloudways that they are going to shut off my servers for non-payment. This is completely inappropriate and uncalled for. I have paid all of my invoices, and furthermore, Cloudways currently owes me more than the amount of my last invoice in unpaid affiliate contributions. It's unfortunate what is happening to Cloudways with the @digitalocean acquisition. I don't think I can recommend this service to my clients anymore, and we are looking to move our own servers now.

@DuaneStorey Tracked data is only useful if it is accurate. Sending this data is unnecessary for the technical purpose of checking for updates. As long as WordPress Core sends this data without consent to Matt's personal website and A8c, it is appropriate to corrupt the tracked data.

Just released version 1.0.1 of my new #WordPress privacy plugin. This version strips out data sent to WP.org for plugins that are hosted off-site. Currently wp.org receives information about every plugin on your system, including "private" and off-site ones. At this point, I'm only looking for devs to install this and help flush it out. But if you don't mind doing some testing, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to keep adding some privacy options over the next few days to limit that amount of data leakage that seems to be happening with a default install. You can find the plugin here if you want to test it out: github.com/wp-privacy/wp-…

Until tonight I was not aware that there is a popular singer called Celeste. Until tonight, 5 lovely women from Liverpool weren't aware that there is a French avant-garde post-hardcore, post-black metal band called Celeste. Sadly for them I was not the one at the wrong gig.
