Our Stand Against the Lobby Targeting Mangaluru’s Railway Rights! The demand for the resumption of Tr No. 16687/16688 Mangaluru Central–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Navyug Express via the Hassan–Miraj–Pune route is longstanding, genuine and fully rooted in the needs of people from the interior and rural areas of Dakshina Kannada. It was the only direct train connecting the region to Belagavi, Pune, Bhopal, Delhi, Jammu and Katra. Even today, there is no train providing that vital northbound connectivity through the Western Ghats. Unfortunately, instead of supporting this legitimate demand, a section of individuals particularly from Kundapura have been consistently spreading hatred against Mangaluru and misleading the public. These same individuals now falsely claim that Navyug Express via the Hassan–Miraj–Pune route benefits Kerala more than Karnataka. We would like to firmly question them how exactly does it benefit Kerala when the train doesn’t even touch Kerala territory? On the other hand, they are demanding that the train be rerouted via Madgaon in Goa. If that is the case, can we not rightfully call them the Goa Lobby or the Konkan Lobby? It is a well-established operational norm that long-distance trains covering over 3000 km must be maintained at fully equipped terminals with pitline facilities. Mangaluru Central has this. Udupi, Kundapura, Subrahmanya Road and Karwar do not. Demands to originate or terminate Navyug Express at such stations are not just technically unviable, but regionally divisive and strategically unfair to Mangaluru, which has historically been the railway hub of the region. When people from the Puttur–Subrahmanya region demanded Navyug Express to run via Hassan–Miraj–Pune, it was a genuine call to fulfill the aspirations of neglected parts of our very own district. But instead of supporting this, they were falsely branded as people from Kerala and the demand was projected as a Kerala-based agenda. Such deliberate misrepresentation only exposes the anti-Mangaluru agenda and internal sabotage being carried out under the guise of regional lobbying. Coming to your shifting stands on other trains you were the very people who previously demanded that Tr No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express, Tr No. 16585/16586 SMVT Bengaluru–Murudeshwar Express(previously SMVT Bengaluru-Mangaluru Central Express) and Tr No. 16515/16516 Yesvantpur–Karwar Express be diverted to Karwar via Padil Bypass, bypassing Mangaluru Central. And now, you suddenly propose that Tr No. 16511/16512 be short-terminated at Mangaluru Central and that a special train be run between Mangaluru and Kannur. If this is acceptable to you now, then by the same logic, Tr No. 16595/16596 KSR Bengaluru–Karwar Panchaganga Express must be routed via Mangaluru Central or Tr No. 16585/86 SMVT Bengaluru-Murudeshwar Express be short-terminated there and run as special train between Mangaluru Central and Murudeshwar or upto Vasco-da-gama in future. Why does your logic shift so conveniently when it concerns your region’s benefits, while applying an entirely different standard when it involves the rights of people from Mangaluru and surrounding areas? Let us not forget, Tr No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express originally terminated at Mangaluru Central and was extended to Kannur in 2006, not due to any operational demand but solely due to political lobbying from Kerala. But even then, the people of Mangaluru did not stay silent. They moved the Hon’ble High Court and ensured that the extension did not become one-sided. As a result, the train was split with one portion going to Karwar and the other to Kannur instead of the entire service being shifted to Kerala. This legal intervention clearly established that Mangaluru Central is the rightful terminus and showed that the people of the region are ready to defend their rights through constitutional means. Furthermore, when there was another proposal to extend Tr No. 16511/16512 beyond Kannur to Kozhikode, it was again the people of Mangaluru and the rest of Dakshina Kannada who strongly opposed it. Due to this unified resistance, both South Western Railway and Southern Railway were compelled to drop the extension plan and hold back the proposal indefinitely. This proves beyond doubt that the people of this region are fully aware, vigilant and committed to preserving Mangaluru’s railway interests, despite continuous attempts to marginalize them. Even the case of Tr No. 07377/07378 Vijayapura–Mangaluru Central Express clearly reflects the same hypocrisy. This train has been receiving excellent occupancy and overwhelming response from the people of North Karnataka, Malnad, and Coastal districts. Despite this, there was an attempt to divert it via Konkan route, betraying the passengers from Mangaluru, Bantwal, Kabaka, Puttur and Subrahmanya. It was only due to strong opposition from the public and elected representatives that this dangerous proposal was withdrawn. Yet, some of the same individuals continue to push for this diversion again ignoring the needs of thousands of genuine passengers who use this train every day. Their intention to isolate Mangaluru and weaken its connectivity is very clear. But your agenda does not stop here. You now go to the extent of branding Surathkal as “Mangaluru North” and misleading passengers by claiming that Mangaluru already has sufficient connectivity. You project Padil as the heart of the city, while every resident of Mangaluru knows that Hampankatta where Mangaluru Central is located is the true and historic city center. The reality is entirely different Padil is situated on the eastern outskirts of Mangaluru and is far removed from the city’s residential and commercial core. Moreover, there is no railway station named “Padil” at Padil. The actual station located in that area is Mangaluru Junction, which is just behind the new Deputy Commissioner’s office. Ironically, Padil railway station is located around 4.4 km away from Padil locality and is not easily accessible. Yet, these very individuals who glorify Padil and falsely claim it to be centrally located are the same ones who oppose running trains even via Mangaluru Junction. They demand that all trains bypass both Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction by using the Padil Bypass, just to satisfy their narrow lobbying interests. To add to this, Surathkal Railway Station is located nearly 21 km away from Hampankatta, on the northern outskirts. Passengers alighting there are forced to spend extra on auto or cab fares and get stuck in traffic to reach the actual city center. It is completely unacceptable to marginalize Mangaluru Central, a centrally located, fully equipped and pitline supported terminal, based on false geographical claims and divisive agendas. This is not development. This is selective discrimination and the people of this region are no longer willing to tolerate it. Time and again, you twist facts, misuse labels and push biased narratives to suppress the genuine needs of the people of Mangaluru and surrounding areas. Your hypocrisy stands fully exposed! We request the people of Coastal Karnataka and beyond not to fall for misleading narratives being spread by a few individuals driven by narrow regional or political interests. Let us remain vigilant and united in defending the genuine needs of Mangaluru and its surrounding regions. The fight is not just for trains it is for our rightful access, representation and respect within the Indian Railways network. Let us all actively contribute to the railway development of Mangaluru, a city that truly deserves far more than what it currently receives. Whether it is infrastructure, services, or terminal-level recognition, Mangaluru has historically been underrepresented despite its strategic and economic importance. It is time to work collectively toward realizing the long-overdue goal of establishing a dedicated Railway Division headquartered at Mangaluru, which will empower the region and ensure fair and sustained growth for all. Regards, Team Dakshina Kannada District Raiway Users. #RestoreNavyugExpress #JusticeForMangaluru

@AshwiniVaishnaw @KARailwayPolice Yesterday (12-12-24) around 6:45 PM, In SMVT railway station parking area, two guys attacked me to steal my valuables. Given the station's proximity to slums, isn't it the authorities' responsibility to ensure public security? #Bangalore

@SWRRLY @GMSRailway, we have got to know that @RailMinIndia has approved the proposal to extend Tr No. 16511/12 KSR Bengaluru-Kannur Express upto Kozhikode. We strongly oppose this proposal! Already Mangaluru is suffering without dedicated trains to Bengaluru! 1/3

Requesting @TVC138 to kindly change the Sign board of Matsyaganda Express.Kannada as well as Hindi translation is wrong. Atleast get some good translators instead of writing rubbish. Kannada translation of Express is ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪ್ರೆಸ್. And Hindi word for Matsyaganda is मत्स्यगंधा.
