@MaeveHalligan I don't understand what the problem is? Why are you so against trans people? They exist. For the most part they aren't hurting anyone. The very low regret rate shows they're happy. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Linguistic prescription is authoritarian. It’s one of the things trans activists have used, with enormous success. Seeking to control what people are allowed to say is a hallmark of cults and totalitarian regimes. I do not subscribe to the post modern ideas that changing language changes reality, that redefining something alters its nature, that our conception of a thing is of more importance than observable facts about the thing itself. To me, this kind of thinking is a dead end full of people pontificating and obfuscating, enjoying the sounds of their own voices while the world burns outside. Some gender critical people seem to think that demanding we all use correct sex pronouns will return the world to sanity. This is an attempt to make the tail wag the dog. You cannot fight linguistic prescription with more linguistic prescription, and no rights campaign can succeed if its adherents are more interested in creating a purity spiral than allowing the smallest space for nuance or for the complexities of human nature and feelings.

Hi Shay, I'm Jewish. Many of my closest friends are Jewish. I love them all. My family is Jewish, I love them all too. My community is Jewish. Love them too. I love Judaism. I host shabbat dinners, celebrate Jewish holidays, sing Jewish prayers, study Torah & Talmud, and love Jewish culture, history and expression. But I'm not a Zionist. I'm an anti-Zionist. That's because Zionism was an ideology that said, let's create a Jewish state in a country that's 97%+ non-Jewish. What could possibly go wrong? A short summary: That's why, when Zionists bought land in Palestine from the 1900s-1948, they uprooted the people living on the land because they weren't jewish. palestinenexus.com/articles/origi… and palestinenexus.com/articles/origi… That's why, when Zionists created cooperatives in Palestine in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s, they insisted on "Hebrew Labor", i.e., "Jews only" -- no Arabs allowed. That's why, in the 1930s, Zionists expelled Palestinian Arabs from working at Jewish companies and business. jstor.org/stable/10.1525… That's why, in 1948, Zionists militias ethnically cleansed 750,000 Palestinians from their homes. archive.org/details/birtho… That's why, from 1949-1956, Israeli forces shot & killed b/w 2,700-5,000 overwhelmingly unarmed Palestinians trying to return to their homes after the war. Because they were the wrong religion/ethnicity archive.org/details/israel… That's why Israel expelled another ~30-40,000 Palestinians from Israel from 1949-1959. palestinenexus.com/articles/israe… That's why Israel expelled another ~250,000 Palestinians from Gaza & the West Bank when it occupied those territories in 1967. archive.org/details/1967is… That's why Israel continued to expel Palestinians from the occupied territories from 1968-1993, many hundreds of thousands of them. palestinenexus.com/articles/israe… The Zionists wanted to create a Jewish State with a Jewish majority in a land of overwhelmingly Palestinians. That's why Israel has become such a pariah state over the years, because it's insistence on jewish rule in a country with so many Palestinians. That's why Zionism has led Israel to become an apartheid state, according to every relevant human rights organization (@ICAHD in 2010, @UNESCWA in 2017, @YeshDin in 2020, @AdalahCenter in 2020, @btselem in 2021, @hrw in 2021, @fidh_en in 2021, @alhaq_org in 2022, @Addameer in 2022, @AlMezanCenter in 2022, @cacalqudsuni in 2022, @AdvocacyJlac in 2022, @miftahpal in 2022, @ICJ_org in 2022, @DAWNmenaorg in 2022, @amnesty in 2022), since it cannot grant the ~5-6 million occupied Palestinians Israeli citizenship. Israel chose apartheid and Jewish supremacy over democracy. Zionism also explains why Israel is now committing genocide (according to @amnesty , @hrw , @btselem , @MSF , IAGS, @alhaq_org , @UNHumanRights , @UN_HRC , @pchrgaza , @AlMezanCenter , @WarOnWant , @PHRIsrael , @fidh_en , PHROC, @LemkinInstitute , @theCCR , @ECCHRBerlin , @unitedforrights @JURDIasso , @TheElders , @Oxfam), because, what a Zionist dream it would have been had Palestine been a land without any people on it! the ideology incentivized genocide. So, please don't conflate Judaism -- that has existed for thousands of years -- with your modern, fascist anti-Jewish political ideology founded on the principles of forcible displacement & genocide. Judaism will last as long as their are humans on the planet. Zionism is imploding in real time.

Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.

The UK Foreign Secretary says she is “deeply troubled" by Israel's latest massacre in Lebanon. So “troubled” that the government still supplies Israel with weapons and intelligence. Israel is committing war crimes in Lebanon - and this government is shamefully complicit.

Today was my shift at the hospital. Since our return to the Indonesian Hospital, I’ve been working side by side with two doctors. One of them was Dr. Mahmoud Abu Amsha. This morning, he was late. We called. No answer. We waited. Still, no sign. Then the news came, cruel and sudden: Mahmoud had been killed in an airstrike. His body was brought to the very hospital where we stood waiting for him in silence that no words could fill. I’ve known Mahmoud not just as a colleague, but as a brother in the trenches. When the Israeli army stormed northern Gaza and most doctors fled for their lives, Mahmoud stayed. He and Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya were the last to hold the line at Kamal Adwan Hospital. Mahmoud - the only remaining surgeon - worked tirelessly in a place that had become more graveyard than hospital. From inside, he sent me voice notes. Fragments of despair and courage. I posted them here, hoping someone, somewhere, would listen. When the hospital finally fell, Mahmoud was taken. Beaten. Then released. He made it to Gaza City with nothing not even his shoes. We went together to buy him some clothes. I teased him that he wouldn’t get to wear them all before another evacuation forced him to leave them behind. I didn’t know then that his next departure would be eternal, not displacement this time, but disappearance into the silence of death. When I opened our free clinic, I messaged him. He was still trapped in Kamal Adwan. “Just stay alive,” I told him. “Come when you can.” He survived. He showed up. He volunteered two days a week, treating the wounded without asking for anything in return. With his hands, he healed. With his presence, he gave us hope. And now, he’s gone. Another light extinguished in a city of endless mourning. Mahmoud’s death is not just mine to grieve. It is a wound in the heart of Gaza’s medical soul. It is a loss to the patients who will never know his care, to the children who will never feel his steady hands in the ER, to the future we are watching collapse one healer at a time. We did not lose just a doctor. We lost resistance in its noblest form. We lost mercy. Rest well, my friend. You gave everything. #GazaGenocide
