@lisperati I had an LG microwave fail this year. The magnetron end cap burnt. I'd had the microwave less than two years and would only use it maybe 1 or 2 times a day for 1-3mins. It's a easy fix unless your microwave makes accessing the end cap difficult.

I feel like microwaves breaking is an urban legend: I have never met anyone who has told me they had a fridge or a microwave break on them (maybe I'm poorly informed) Clothes washers and dish washers, otoh, break all the time, and there is a healthy repair market for those
roon@tszzl

people used to get appliances repaired, clothes mended. its significantly cheaper & easier now to get a new microwave off a cargo ship from shanghai than to find a handyman who will repair one for you. the global logistics system is a star trek replicator with a 0-2 day lag

@tobi @idiom_bytes The equivalent scenario would be letting the public into Shopify's datacenters where idiots and bad faith actors are free to pull wires, drives, whatever, dump water, etc. Do you let the public into Shopify datacenters? No. Where's the freedom, Tobi? Fucking idiot.

@idiom_bytes Whatever fragility exists on Shopify infra would be a skills issue of Shopify and for us (me) to fix. We own it. We wouldn’t tell users to stop visiting Shopify stores. Or fine them for visiting stores. The fire problems are due to flawed forestry management practices.

I'm here and ready to share any and all opinions or experiences I had with Microsoft, Google, and Amazon now. It's been more than long enough and they can't hurt me anymore. Curious about anything? Ask away. I'll queue up some answers for later (stepping offline here shortly).

@tobi @MarkJCarney LOL. You gonna offer PP a job? He's in need. We know that ain't going to happen though, without the position to influence, PP is useless to you. Corrupt fuck.

@AndrewLawton Trump had just got off the phone with Putin, who gave him this tip: "Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said Moscow would back US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s nominee, in presidential elections in November." aljazeera.com/news/2024/9/6/…

This isn't some game of 3D chess. Donald Trump simply wants weak leadership in Canada. Canadians want – and deserve – a strong, Conservative government.

@travisjeffery @SilviaPencak @KevMVickers Now thatsl statement is actually a fallacy. Completely irrelevant to the point. Fundamentally, the way the law works, anyone can become PM based on the vote of a fraction of Canada. That is just outright undemocratic.

PM Carney is the 13th unelected PM in Canada 1. John A MacDonald 2. Alexander McKenzie 3. John Abbott 4. John Sparrow David Thompson 5. Mackenzie Bowell 6. Charles Tupper 7. Arthur Meighen 8. Louis St Laurent 9. Pierre Trudeau 10. John Turner 11. Kim Campbell and 12. Paul Martin

@travisjeffery @SilviaPencak @KevMVickers Yeah not a red herring at all when you consider Carney is basically as hated by opposition. Neither ever elected to office but both were/are advisors of a foreign country. Both completely inept at public speaking.

@AlyanWh Yet every province has the same problem of food that is too expensive and housing that is too expensive. Coincidence?

@itsallrel4tive @SilviaPencak @KevMVickers The public votes for the parties, the parties elects their leader, whatever party has the most seats is the PM. That's how our system works. We probably have an election next month. At which point you can grasp at the next straw.

@travisjeffery @SilviaPencak @KevMVickers Right, so at some point in their lives, Canadians chose them to represent them. No general public has ever chosen Carney to represent them at any level of government ever.

The thing is, I don’t think Trump is trying to do Poilievre a favour here. I think he’s genuinely annoyed that Poilievre hasn’t kissed the ring. So he wants Carney as Canada’s PM.

I love that whenever Pierre Poilievre is put on the spot he turns in GOB from that episode of Arrested Development when he was kept rattling off how much his suits cost. Beyond slogans he’s got nothing. Ask him questions and he crumbles. Lol.
