Today marks 61 Years of Westnile in darkness, the only region not connected to the National Grid. It feels like while the rest of the country got independence, Westnile was forgotten and left in between three countries. Most of you don’t know why we are angry but i’ll explain; 1. We receive an average of 4-6 hours of electricity a day. Can you imagine the impact this has considering that electricity is a basic need? The region being off the national grid also means that we are at the mercy of the incompetent @Wenreco_Uganda who we want out of Westnile. 2. As articulated in youtu.be/DA0DZBX4Mec?si… documentary and other studies, atleast 80% of the health facilities do not have electricity. 3. There have been over five timelines that have come and gone. The region is hopeless to the say the least and yet, we haven’t yet resorted to non conventional ways in our quest. If these forgotten citizens must, nobody will blame them So, what exactly are we celebrating fellow Westnilers?

A number of health facilities in Uganda do not have medicine, have poor sanitation and insufficient staff that are over worked, underpaid, and sometimes have to wait a little longer to get their hard earned salaries. Part of the billions of shillings that the government spends per year to settle high profile people’s medical expenses abroad could be used to plug the gaps within the health budget that caters for millions of Ugandans. The Shs377 billion spent by government on treating its top officials abroad every year is enough to construct 10 hospitals of the standard of the private Kampala International Hospital. If built, the hospitals would treat many of the VIPs who currently fly abroad, but would also bring world-class treatment to hundreds of thousands of ordinary Ugandans across the country. #UgandaHealthExhibition

I've been privileged to be a leader in different institutions and at various levels & I've learnt that leadership is about who you are. I owe everything I am today to what I was able to do in my youth. You have the ability and potential to be anything that you wish to be.

We discussed barriers that limit youths to start businesses or finding jobs: skills that do not match those needed in the labour market, a focus on formal employment only, the difficulty of starting a business, no incentives for businesses to engage young women and men.1/2

To be able to speak about SRHR, we need to be properly equipped with knowledge on SRHR so as to properly discuss it in @Parliament_Ug. This platform gives us the opportunity to deal with the real issues around SRHR which is with dealing with the policies and laws- @BonOkot 1/3

In his opening remarks, our forum chairperson @BonOkot emphasized the need to conceptualize SRHR to the needs of the young people given that they make up the majority of the general Ugandan population. 49% of Ugandans are 15 years and below (young people). #SGBV #SRHR 1/2.
