Following rapid growth, a $100M Series B, and a slate of new launches, I sat down with Parallel co-founder @travers00. @p0 is building core search infrastructure for the agentic web: systems that enable AI to retrieve, structure, and reason over information across the internet with speed, accuracy, and reliability. I joined Travers at Parallel’s new Palo Alto office for a wide-ranging conversation on: > The pace going from launch last August to becoming critical infrastructure powering production workflows at companies like Notion, Harvey, Granola, and more. > Why Parallel sees the future of search as far beyond “ten blue links,” toward systems built for retrieval, reasoning, monitoring, and computation. > The changing nature of the web itself: its economics, openness, and what happens as agents become primary users. > The artistry and legacy of internet history shaping the company: Olivetti typewriters, Douglas Hofstadler, Lloyd Shapley, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Google’s Search Box, and how it inspired programs like the Museum of the Human Web. Today, @emnuelkassie joins @naturalpay as our second designer. In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a product and design obsessed founder. Especially in financial services, I always like to say that we’ll never be able to “buy” the brand reputation and trust a big bank has earned over a century. What we can do is earn that trust back through a seemingly never-ending number of small product and design details. We can’t prove on the surface how well our payments infrastructure or ledgering works. So the product surface area has to prove that we care, and that we take our mission and responsibility seriously. I first hired Emanuel in 2021, when I was coming out of YC and he was a sophomore in college. I reviewed over 1,600 portfolios and interviewed nearly 100 designers before hiring him. I was looking for someone visually excellent who could also think critically about product. Emanuel was that rare combination, and knows the importance of design well. In 2021, I had to convince him to leave school and throw himself into the deep end. It meant a lot that he was open to making that leap then. It means even more that he’s making it again now. It takes a lot of trust to hand someone your vision and let them bring it to life. I have that trust in Emanuel. Excited to be reunited for part two of the journey. natural.co/blog/why-emanu…

No young person I know drinks drip hot coffee. Blank St is spot on and I’m sure they have the data to back it up. In general, it’s a feat they raised as much as they did for a brick and mortar concept. Leaning into young people, social media (matcha!), and their popularized preferences has yielded great outcomes. That being said, totally agreed that this approach doesn’t please broad demographics who are more standard coffee drinkers.

when i first saw this one, i had a visceral reaction to this Limewire green you better believe 12yo me was all over this platform, finding the best versions of Avril and MCR to rip onto my ipod mini at its peak in 2006, the p2p application had nearly 4 million daily users and was responsible for an estimated 3 billion music downloads per month

Finally, we worked on the identity design, web design and dev for @p0 on the Museum of the Human Web, and getting to work with @travers00 @vanlancker @lukaslevert @yangyou has been nothing but a cherry on top. Its a magical time to be alive when you can observe the progress so far of the internet, but even more magical that we have a reason to pause and look back to both reminisce but more importantly approach the next era of pioneering digitally. I think theres so much to learn from what we have done thus far, and this will be a beautiful encapsulation of the past and a great framing of whats to come. Come visit in SF!
