building this vellum paper stack is the most fun i've had with software in a while refining everything from the card count to the motion with dialkit - an amazing tool for live tuning what you build (h/t @joshpuckett) i'm calling it playground as a principle

My last day with Foundation Labs is today — building this company over the last 6 years was a dream ✨ As our last project, we worked on a new company website to document the journey as much as possible, so that our ideas can continue to live on.

@joshpuckett yes i ended up tweaking directly. thought something small like that would feel more ergonomic in the control panel!

@yangyou love it! You can control the order in code (it's just FIFO order as declared), but good idea to have drag to rearrange in the panel itself, will consider!

@yangyou One of my favorite places in the world. If you’ve still got time and you haven’t already, you should pay a visit to my friends at Andersen Andersen and check out the Finn Juhl House!

spent last week in Copenhagen to discover why people are so happy here among many things, Denmark rolled out free universal education before expanding voting rights, so the country would be run by informed voters what a radical concept

truly impossible to capture the energy in the room last night. General Magic was an Apple spin-out that came out with a smartphone in the early ’90s: touchscreen, apps, messaging… basically everything we now carry in our pockets. they were just about 15 years too early. we got to hear from founder & CEO of General Magic Marc Porat, Mike Stern, Richard Clark, and Dee Gardetti. if you haven't heard their story before, I highly encourage you to look into it (watch the movie!) - @soleio moderated a fantastic conversation - the audience was so engaged that we could've kept going for hours, but we eventually spared. Magic Cap OS was the platform they built for handheld communicators (PDAs). The OS was intentionally lightweight because the real computing was expected to happen on network servers. General Magic believed handheld devices would always be weak, so they designed them as thin clients connected to network services, perhaps the earliest version of cloud computing as we know it today. What's even more fascinating is that they were early to the idea of agents too. They created a programming language and runtime called Telescript, which was modeled on the concept of small programs (that they called agents) that would interact with services known as places - and these all would run on a cluster of server(s) hosted on what was called a Telescript cloud. From Wikipedia: "The user's handheld device was one such place - they assumed most information and services would be provided by places running on larger server computers hosted by the communications providers like AT&T. Even early documents refer to this as running in the cloud. User-facing programs would consist of a number of such agents, which might run locally, on the provider's hosts, or even be forwarded to 3rd party servers. To coordinate communications, Telescript also included the concepts of a telename that uniquely identified users, and teleaddresses which identified the device even as it moved between networks." So grateful to be able to collaborate on this with @designengclub @mathurahravi @html_tina @svardnan @nicole_ripka @ftnabeelah - what a dream :-)

a lot of conversations i’ve had with founders end up here. this is gold. great designers are not drawn to a blank slate. put out evidence of great design and speak to the human behind the JD.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m excited to join @fal as the new Head of Design. I’ve been collaborating with @gorkem and @burkaygur on the fal brand closely over the past few years, so it all made (too) much sense to continue this journey on a more permanent basis (and they could pull me out of FT-retirement). Excited to explore the space of generative media and work alongside the brightest minds. As for the studio, I’ll be still taking on projects under my studio still but on a much much more limited basis. 😌
