Trusting assurances of rehabilitation and release, she handed them over to the military at Vattuvakal during the final days of the war. Since then, no information has been provided about their fate. Her daughter, Sasikumar Ranjinidevi, continues the struggle for truth and justice as a representative of families of the forcibly disappeared in Mullaitivu. At least 254 Eelam Tamils killed by Sri Lanka and buried in a mass grave on the outskirts of Jaffna

50 years ago, one of the most important moments that shaped modern Tamil history, and the history of Eelam Tamils, occurred: the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was founded. The LTTE was founded on 5 May 1976 as the successor to the Tamil New Tigers (TNT). It was formed after decades of repression from the Sri Lankan state against the Tamil-speaking people, including settler colonialism, police violence, military occupation, disappearances, assassinations, economic deprivation, denial of self-determination, assimilation campaigns, and state-sponsored pogroms against the Eelam Tamil population. The objective of the LTTE was to resist against genocidal oppression and to fight for the independence of the Tamil nation, with the goal of establishing a democratic socialist Tamil Eelam, as envisaged by the Vaddukoddai Resolution. The Tigers waged one of the most heroic and determined fights of the 20th and 21st century, despite being isolated internationally and having to fight against a state backed by world powers. They tackled two state armies, the Sri Lankan army and the Indian army, and subsequently controlled large amounts of Tamil areas, turning them into liberated zones, and then established the de facto state of Tamil Eelam with its own banks, institutions, schools, administration, police, navy, national army, air force, and judiciary. It took 39 countries, billions of dollars, and an all-out genocide against the Tamil people to defeat the Tamil Tigers.
