Bengaluru Citizens Stage "Scream" Protest Against Urban Planning Failures Bengaluru #Greenpeace India, together with a coalition of civil society groups under the #BengaluruRising campaign, staged city-wide demonstrations on #AprilFool’s Day to highlight the irony of modern planning failures in India’s high-tech capital. A collective "Scream" echoed across #Bengaluru as citizens protested what they termed the "absurdity" of the city’s current urban development trajectory. Amruta S.N., Climate and Energy Campaigner at Greenpeace India, described "Stupid Projects" as those plagued by massive delays, outrageous cost escalations and a fundamental failure to solve the problems they were originally designed to address. In the lead-up to the #GBA elections, the campaign is urging candidates to engage with these concerns rather than allowing the city to descend into further logistical chaos. The "Scream" interventions drew attention to three sites emblematic of infrastructure stagnation. At the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Arch Flyover, residents protested a project delayed for more than four years. At the Dommasandra flyover, the delay has stretched to nearly six years, disrupting daily life without delivering relief. Meanwhile, at the defunct Mysore Lamps factory, activists opposed a proposal to replace a dense, forest-like urban canopy with a convention center, raising urgent questions about ecological preservation versus large-scale concrete development. The campaign follows months of "Imaginariums" , innovative workshops with students, professionals and residents, designed to capture the divide between official priorities and public needs. By launching these actions on April 1st, activists underscored the irony of a global tech hub relying on outdated, mid-20th-century urban planning models. @greenpeaceindia @Greenpeace @GBA_office @BDAOfficialGok @DKShivakumar

Lokayukta Summons BSWML Top Brass Over Bengaluru Garbage Crisis Bengaluru Taking a stern stand against the city’s worsening waste management, #Lokayukta Justice B.S. Patil has issued summons to the senior officers of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (#BSWML). The move follows a series of surprise inspections conducted on March 30, 2026, which revealed serious lapses in sanitation and waste disposal across several key sectors of the city. Accompanied by Lokayukta police officials, Justice Patil visited multiple locations, including Gottigere (near Decathlon), the stretch from #NIMHANS to Minerva Circle, Anjanapura, J.P. Nagar 9th Phase and S.E.R. Residency 4th Cross Road. The inspections uncovered heaps of uncollected garbage lining both sides of the roads in these areas. Expressing “extreme dissatisfaction” with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (#GBA) and BSWML, the Lokayukta voiced grave concerns about the potential for severe adverse impacts on public health. In direct response to these findings, the Lokayukta has ordered the COO of BSWML to personally appear for a hearing on April 2, 2026, at 3:30 pm. The COO is required to submit a comprehensive report detailing the reasons for the observed lapses and deficiencies. Deputy General Managers and Assistant General Managers responsible for the inspected zones have also been summoned to attend the hearing at the same time. The Lokayukta has already registered suo motu cases regarding solid waste disposal across all five corporations under the Greater #Bengaluru Authority. @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm @KareeGowda_IAS @DKShivakumar

If your devotion leaves filth behind, it’s not faith. It is utter disrespect to both - God and nature. Peepal trees, rather than being worshipped, have become the hub of trash and left-over stuff. This is not faith.

This will go down as the biggest achievement of this govt. Truly historic day for Karnataka. Congratulations to CM and DCM for successfully concluding such a difficult and complex negotiation process involving so many stakeholders. This will benefit the 6 crore Kannada people. Hope their expertise is made use of to conclude Ukraine-Russia and Iran-Israel conflicts.

Most of you might not know that SIR is currently ongoing in Bengaluru. As of yesterday, the status of one society in the city was 60%. The 31st of March is the last day. BLOs are supposed to conduct door-to-door verification, but instead, they are holding only 1–2 camps per society and sending messages through Telegram/WhatsApp groups. Not everyone is active on these platforms. Don’t be surprised if the voter list is reduced by half at the end of this exercise. When the south is fighting for numbers in the imminent delimitation, this kind of “negligence” by @ceo_karnataka is detrimental to democracy. @ECISVEEP @SpokespersonECI @ArvindLBJP @PCMohanMP @DKShivakumar @siddaramaiah @BJP4Karnataka @INCKarnataka
