At Kundapura for a cousin’s wedding, and the amount of money people now spend on weddings is honestly insane, at least for those who can afford it. Every ritual has turned into a separate event on a separate day. 15-20 years ago, rituals like the turmeric bath were reserved for the core family. Even applying a drop of henna on the bride or groom's hand was a private family affair. Now these small rituals are full blown public functions with 100 to 300 people attending. Mehendi is one event. Turmeric bath is another. Then the wedding. Then the reception. Then separate visits from the bride’s side to the groom’s side and vice versa, all on different days. Add pre wedding photo shoots to this. It easily becomes 6 or 7 events spread across an entire week. GenZ does not seem to mind. In fact, they seem to enjoy it. The whole thing feels less like a ceremony and more like a carefully planned content festival. I recently met one of the founders of a large event management company in Bengaluru, and he echoed the same view. There is an intense craze among Gen-Z to make their weddings look unique. Every detail is designed to become shareable content, from rituals to outfits to backdrops to moments. If event management companies are smart enough to keep reinventing how these rituals are packaged, weddings will remain a thriving market in India even 10 years from now. I only hope Gen Z and other future generstions put at least half of that same energy into what comes after the wedding too. Because marriage is not just about social media likes and aesthetics. It is about patience, sticking together when things do not go right and many other challenges. And patience, unfortunately, is not GenZ+ generstion’s strongest virtue.

You aren’t getting the issue. What is the point in making 250 odd films if you don’t have theatres to release. Focus on the problem. The problem is last mile connection and that is theatres. First ensure theatres survive by giving them marketable content. Give 30 films which get people to the theatres. We don’t need 250 films.

Hmmm… ARR deserved an Oscar many, many years ago. Honestly, Slumdog Millionaire felt mediocre compared to his earlier compositions. You really can’t compare anyone with ARR. He’s light-years ahead.
