Having kids and seeing how much work it is has made the decision to adopt even more incomprehensible to me. No offense to those who do it, but I couldn’t imagine putting up with all the screaming and crying for someone else’s child.
Nicholas Decker@captgouda24

When I have children, I do not want them to be genetically mine. Instead, I will have someone better than me be the sperm donor. My reasoning here: nicholasdecker.substack.com/p/why-my-child…

@AlanMCole @HamptonPrezcott Concerts are obviously often priced way below market clearing price even though theyre the only one with truly constrained supply Ski tickets are over $300 yet lines are longer than ever. They are starting to sell line cutting passes for up to like $12k

@AlanMCole @HamptonPrezcott I definitely understand why people hate it Its hard to wrap your head around how much demand there is for concerts, Disney and skiing. And the different strategies toward market clearing prices are interesting

I think the problem with Disney Parks isn’t the cost, per se (they have always been extremely expensive), it’s the obscene complexity of the experience (Lightning Pass, etc.) coupled with lousy bang for buck at F&B and Hotels.
Sonny Bunch@SonnyBunch

@RobGeorge This is the thing: Disney Parks are, maybe, in a sneakily large amount of trouble because they’re losing the next generation due to ticket prices, lack of interest, etc. It’s a similar problem with movie theaters but papered over by all the Disney Adults still coming to parks.

@AlanMCole @HamptonPrezcott Certainly some people avoid the park because of this. I think thats somewhat or maybe even largely by design Maybe they'd be better off long term simplifying some things but I hesitate to second guess Disney

@AlanMCole @HamptonPrezcott I think this is part of the reason for the crazy ticket prices. But even at these prices the lines would just be too long without the fast passes. Theyd have to charge thousands to get rid of them entirely. Theres a reason every park does it and its not just revenue generation

B@wastetime·
@AlanMCole @HamptonPrezcott The thing is the high ticket prices and the fast passes that are a little more complicated than other parks, are downstream of the almost insatiable demand. Without them the experience would be worse

@HamptonPrezcott Yeah this is kind of the biggest barrier to me on the parks. (I have a kid in the requisite age bracket.) I'm well-off and don't mind paying extra money for a good experience, but there's mental load in figuring out and optimizing the whole meta-layer of pricing schemes.

@politicalmath @Meta Right instead of just talking about it and threatening to do it like you are here, these people went ahead and did it

It is becoming increasingly clear that companies like @Meta just need to grow some balls at the executive level and say "these accounts will be specifically protected from cancellation b/c they are being maliciously targeted by dishonest actors"
Jennifer Sey@JenniferSey

.@Meta has confirmed that the suspension of our ad account on Friday morning was due to a "spike in negative feedback." Not anything wrong with any particular ad. All of which they had to approve before they went live. So met their policy guidelines. In my heart of hearts I believe the spike was due to @elonmusk tweeting about us (via @Riley_Gaines_ ). There simply is no reason the haters went on the attack (more than usual) at that particular moment. Meta provided some input to help us try to avoid this kind of spike in the future. While nice of them to try to help us stay live, will you just look at this: One piece of advice: "Stand up for women's sports" is ok to say. "Stand up for women" is probably not. It will trigger the haters, they tell us. Could the misogyny be more obvious? @elonmusk help a girl out and trigger them again. @jk_rowling you too. Trigger them all day long.

@daveweigel Again, "resurfacing" is for when the person has changed their stance Ita not for when people are talking about your party's ongoing unpopular positions

@AlastairGrayson @moseskagan How do you take care of your loved ones, etc without making money? Or do you have some weird priorities that dont have taking care of your family at the top of the list?

@moseskagan Imagine thinking money is the only thing that matters to people. Even in your defense of your statement, you still only mention money. How that money could be used, how it should be used, how you lament not getting more of it. You're the problem, not them.

@CitizenMikeH @AviMayer Ah ok so the problems in the west bank are because it is under palestinian control, got it If israel doesnt control the west bank, then why are you claiming Israel for its problems?

Yesterday, after Shabbat services—during which I announced the protocol for a missile siren—I recommended a fantastic kosher restaurant to friends flying to Paris this week. The husband paused, lowered his voice, and said, "But is it... safe... to go to Jewish places in Paris?"

People talk a lot about their self-exile to BlueSky, but one possible explanation for the decline of Woke Power today is that they’ve all become hypochondriacs afraid to leave their houses since 2020.
