@Doc_aka_Rich @ChristianHeiens Internal strife leading to division, civil war. The country becomes multiple countries. That's another very common way, and probably the most destructive to the people.

I have often observed that countries end in several ways [1] they are conquered by invaders [2] they are overthrown by their own people [3] the gov financially collapses Are there any other ways? BTW, we are headed to [3]! There's really no way to stop this train as it has no functioning brakes. If by some miracle we bring it to a stop we'll succumb to [1] ... BY INVITATION!

Progressivism will inevitably end one of two ways. Either it is crushed by a reactionary political backlash that reasserts the things it has steadily worked to dissolve, or it overcomes all political opposition until it runs out of things to dissolve or invert. But either way, it will one day come to an end. It has to. Progressivism lives and dies by its ability to relentlessly attack inherited obligations and traditions. The family, the nation, religion, traditional sex roles, international borders, standards of decency, social hierarchy, law and order, civilizational memory, I can go on. Progressivism inevitably turns on it all. It’ll eventually even go after the distinction between what’s considered normal and what’s considered pathological. But like a termite that runs out of wood or a virus that kills its host, that process of dissolution does not go on forever. It’s ironic in a way. Progressivism is an ideology about liberating abstract man (abstract woman is a better way to put it since it inverts everything) from all limits, but the ideology itself has a limit because it depends on a bunch of pre-political/pre-liberal things that it did not create. In short, it needs the very thing it critiques to exist. And once it has sufficiently dismantled the pillars of civilization, the ideology will die because it has no way to navigate the world that will inevitably come next.

@AtxDonut @AlexEveryGuy @unusual_whales So much would be resolved if we all acknowledged that not every kid belongs in school. Some need to become more mature before we can expect them to want to learn.

@ThePrimeagen Bad idea. Whitespace becomes a token if you use it for scoping, and you need more of them, one for each line.

@stoneoreye As a guy, there's also a test you can do. If you're nice, you do something nice for her, and she treats you worse because of it, then reject her. The secret is not to manipulate the testing, it is to have your own standards.

@CRYPTOCEL00 @Noahpinion It used to be the case that you never had much time with temps over 25 in your house. Very rare. These days are different, and people will adapt.

@camhigby @AIPAC It’s fine. Perhaps a bit poorly-timed. But if we can’t get back to the point that Israel-supporters can openly and proudly share their viewpoints, without quivering in fear, we’re in trouble.

As a programmer I think this is totally fair, but I think what people actually mean is that they don’t want to *know* they’re interacting with a car computer, and what they mean by “car computer” is “shitty Android tablet with touch controls for everything”. They want a good user experience. They want things to just work, and be intuitive. Shitty Android tablets are not delivering that.

@valigo Don't listen to every moron on the internet. Most of us can distinguish between a people and their government. Russians are fine, and aren't even that poorly perceived by regular westerners. Terminally online influencers don't matter.

Ok here's the thing. Being law-abiding Russian means getting hunted down and sent to death by your own government. And it means supporting Crimea annexation, the war, and snitching on your neighbors for "lgbt-propaganda". TLDR is that you don't want lawful Russian, and lawless Russian is your friend. You will find out that vast majority of Russians respect local laws as soon as they move to a country that is not actively hostile to them.
Jock Tanner@JockTanner

India has a lot of great engineers and thinkers, but Indians see virtue in nepotism. Russia has great programmers too, but Russians are lawless. Nations has their traits, that's reality, not a rasist theory. I see why a good country such as US shouldn't welcome each and every one

@MomsPostingLs Both. He was crass, she was entitled. When you're told to pay your share, the best reply is "Of course! I would not have it any other way." Then you make your judgement about the motives of the other person.

@tekbog The reality is there's real caring folks that do things like actual skills training. Good people that want to make people better by raising the bar. Then you get the compliance HR folk that can't think but just read off their scripts. That's what needs to die.

@cremieuxrecueil The end result is that anything with political significance, or that deals with public figures, or about ideologically relevant history is not trustworthy. It may seem so, but it's heavily leaned upon to give the "correct education". You do yourself a disservice learning from it.

@cremieuxrecueil This is how insidious the editing process is. The goal of ideologues is to push narratives, based on some pseudo philosophical truth-is-lesser-than-struggle theories. The idea of objective knowledge as a valuable public good is lost on these people.

I'm learning a lot from bickering with people on Wikipedia. For example, did you know fraudulent articles can be "reliable" and articles documenting said fraud can be "unreliable" for no other reason than 'some lifeless loser who edits Wikipedia 10 hours a day said so'? Wow!
