CEB Care There was a minor issue with our electricity supply at home since yesterday. The lights were dim, and the fans and AC weren’t working which was really frustrating in this hot weather. Whenever we switched on the fan, even the dim bulbs would go off completely. Since none of the neighboring houses had this issue, we assumed it was a fault with our home wiring or DB box. We tried contacting a few electricians, but no luck (they had their own “big scenes” 😂). This morning, just as I was about to call another electrician, I noticed the CEB Care app, which has been on my phone for the last 6–7 years. I thought, what if this issue is actually from CEB’s side? So instead of making the call, I submitted a complaint through the app at exactly 8:58 AM. Immediately, I received a reference number confirming my complaint had been logged and that a crew would attend soon. Within the same minute, I got another alert saying the breakdown crew had been notified. At 8:59 AM, another notification confirmed the duty had been assigned. Then exactly at 9:00 AM, I received a call from the breakdown team confirming they were on their way and reconfirming the address. And at 9:05 AM, their vehicle arrived at our gate. The nearest CEB service office is about 2.5 km away. That means only 7 minutes had passed since submitting the complaint through the app. Three young technicians arrived, all very friendly and professional. Within 5 minutes, they identified the fault and fixed it. By 9:10 AM, they had completed the repair and left. Let me repeat that: From the moment I submitted the complaint, the entire process from dispatching the crew, traveling 2.5 km, identifying the issue, and completing the repair took just 12 minutes. Absolutely outstanding service by the CEB Care online team and the Hokandara service office breakdown team. Hats off, guys. Excellent service. I’ve had the CEB Care app on my phone ever since it was launched in 2019 alongside the 50th anniversary of the Ceylon Electricity Board, and I’ve written reviews and feedback about it several times over the past 7 years. During power outages, its real-time outage map has consistently provided accurate information. Without a doubt, this is one of the best online services offered by any government institution in Sri Lanka. The app offers many useful features managing multiple electricity accounts, bill payments, access to historical data, monthly consumption summaries, and much more. Sri Lanka currently has around 7.1 million electricity consumer accounts, yet only around 1 million+ users actively use this app. Let’s encourage more people to make use of this service, and hopefully inspire other government institutions to improve their digital services by taking CEB Care as an example. Instead of always comparing ourselves to other countries, why not also recognize and appreciate the efficient services provided by institutions in our own country? ❤️
