@yawto Yeah I get that. They are boring. Which is why it’s so entertaining to watch the oilers be retarded and then get so sensitive when other teams fans comment on it. Watching the oilers fumble McDavid and trade him this year is going to be amazing to watch. Thank you oilers

@PhantomFinger1 Not that this plays…but I will play along… Then Calgary is the family member nobody cares about. Completely irrelevant. An afterthought. Not even classified a loser. Just ignored.

Urban voters can consolidate and beat the UCP. When we beat the UCP, we beat the separatists. When we beat the separatists, we can come together as Albertans and Canadians to build our province. #abpoli

@MorganLaidler 30% support in polling from an electorate that is 2.9 million strong means there are roughly 850k supporters. It’s simple math. A lot of people that support wouldn’t sign a petition. There are as many separatists as people who support the NDP in the province.

Jesus fucking Christ. 700K Albertans DO NOT want a referendum (no matter how she wants to spin it), about 300K do as they signed the separatist petition. The 400K that signed to remain in Canada want this nonsense to be done with and do actual things that matter.
Courtney Theriault@cspotweet

Premier Smith says it shouldn't be up to a single, unelected Trudeau-appointed judge should overrule the 700K Albertans who want a separation referendum. She also suggests she would appeal this all the way to the Supreme Court.

@Reil76 Piss poor take. FYI, Canadian services (EI and CPP) would collapse in 1 quarter without Alberta payroll taxes. Fact check me sport.

Hot take, but an honest one: Canada wouldn’t collapse if Alberta left. Financially, it would hurt, but it would adapt. Alberta is about 11% of the population and roughly 15% of GDP. That is significant. But Canada had a functioning economy long before the oil sands boom, and it would reorganize around the loss. Ottawa would lose a chunk of revenue, yes. But it would also lose the cost of serving 4.7 million people. Transfers, infrastructure, federal programs, all of it. And then there is the awkward part people do not talk about: Canada owns the Trans Mountain pipeline. Alberta’s oil still needs a way out. That becomes a negotiation overnight. The oil sands do not vanish if Alberta separates. The oil still gets produced and sold. Canada just loses the taxes and royalties tied to it. Painful, but not fatal. The real disruption would be slower and messier. Supply chains, agriculture, petrochemicals. All the stuff that quietly connects Alberta to the rest of the country. That takes time and money to rebuild. Saying “Canada would collapse without us” was never really true. And honestly, it weakens the argument.

I’m Métis. My family has been in the Alberta region long before Canada was a country or Alberta was a province. @grok can you tell me if Alberta Métis were asked if they wanted to join Canada in 1905? Maybe the right judge can decide to take Alberta out of Canada, since we don’t seem to care about Democracy anymore.

@albertaNDP The separatist movement has more support than the NDP in Alberta. Fact check me.

@nandouglas @BadgerMole64 At 27% of the electorate, the separatist movement has as many supporters as the NDP had last election. Careful on what you frame as no support.

@nenshi @BadgerMole64 29% of voting Albertans support this. At the least. That’s more than the amount that voted for your party last election. These people have as much a right to be heard as you do. And unlike you, they’ve been gaining support over the past two years.

This referendum violates treaty rights, it would cost Albertans hundreds of millions of dollars, and is now tied to serious public safety concerns thanks to the largest data breach in Alberta’s history. Accept the court’s decision. Nobody is above the law – certainly not this Premier or this separatist government

@aasingleton17 @ABDanielleSmith I am disappointed. Regardless of the technicality of law, which will get sorted, there is a growing number of people who are dissatisfied with confederation. Quebec has already proven there is a way forward. So this will advance. Today was a setback. Nothing more.

@yawto @ABDanielleSmith The question itself was ruled to be unconstitutional. Rights were violated in how the process occurred. Rule of law applies to everyone all the time, not just when it benefits one group. I respect the courts upholding rights. Seems like you're the disappointed one 🤷‍♂️ Cheers.

Premier @ABDanielleSmith has had multiple opportunities to shut down the separatist referendum. At every instance, she has refused and doubled down. This premier does not care about your rights or representing you - she only cares about keeping her power. #NotInItForYou #ableg

BREAKING: Premier Danielle Smith says that while her government supports Alberta staying in Canada, she will be appealing a court decision that quashed a possible separatist petition/referendum.

@aasingleton17 @ABDanielleSmith Last I checked we all have rights. Which, in this democracy, allows us to question our government. Asking the question does nothing unconstitutional. But I get it, you only want your viewpoint to matter. At least 30% support. Thats around a million Albertans, not tiny.

@yawto @ABDanielleSmith Last I checked, rights are protected in Canada. Should the constitutionality protected rights of people be ignored to appease a very small percentage of separatists?
