I’m writing to highlight a case that is now gaining public attention. A petition is calling for a review of Mahdi Mirdamadi (Najafabadi), who is currently living and working in the United States in an academic capacity.
His father, Mohsen Mirdamadi, was among those involved in the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover—an event that led to the 444-day hostage crisis impacting American diplomats and national security.
This raises a serious and legitimate question: how is it that the son of an individual involved in one of the most consequential actions against the United States is now freely building a professional life within it?
Given the historical significance and growing public concern, this case may warrant closer review and potential coverage.

🚨An IRGC affiliate news channel confessed that he was used during Nuclear talks to “soften” up America towards the regime. Now he lives in America. Hossein Mousavian, Iran's former ambassador to Germany during a wave of terror attacks and assassinations across Europe, including the brutal Mykonos restaurant massacre in Berlin where four Kurdish opposition leaders were gunned down in cold blood. He was expelled from Germany in 1997 on strong suspicion of being directly involved in orchestrating those killings. The Iranian embassy under his watch was the command center for those hits. Yet this guy has been living comfortably in America for years, actively pushing pro-Iran propaganda on social media, attacking the United States and Israel nonstop, and brainwashing students with his regime-friendly views during his time at Princeton. In January 2025, Tabnak, an IRGC-affiliated news outlet, ran a glowing piece on him titled “From the Iranian Parliament to the White House,” calling him the mastermind behind the “Friendship Plan” to soften up America toward the regime. He visited the Obama White House at least three times, including meetings with top National Security Council officials like Robert Malley. He is technically operating as an unregistered foreign agent. This is how the Islamic Republic uses assets inside the U.S., infiltrating American universities, shaping narratives, and advancing Tehran’s interests right under our noses. @SecRubio , these people are national security threats, not welcomed guests. Masoumeh Ebtekar - also known as "Screaming Mary" - was the spokeswoman for the Islamic terrorists who stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days - subjecting them to beatings, starvation, and mock executions.
In 2014, the Obama Administration granted visas to her son and his family to enter the United States. In June 2016, the Obama Administration gave them lawful permanent resident status via the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.
This week, I terminated their lawful permanent resident status and today, Seyed Eissa Hashemi, Maryam Tahmasebi, and their son are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending their removal from our country.
Her family should never have been allowed to benefit from the extraordinary privilege of living in our country.
America can never become home for anti-American terrorists or their families - and under the Trump Administration, it never will.
