I really don't understand the cynicism around Andy Burnham. It's quite clear he represents a clean break and is going to meaningfully change things. And that's why he's already hiring Blairite lobbyists who used to run Labour Friends of Israel. Change is coming!

My strong gut feeling is that the Labour Party is having a very excited, almost delirious conversation with itself that will completely fail to connect with the vast majority of the country beyond some parts of northern England.

Maybe we should build more housing in London and kick out zone 1-4 social tenants.

Burnham needs loyal, reliable, intelligent people - & even then his job is insanely hard.
Obviously that precludes almost anyone from Labour right machine politics. So you understand why he’d want someone who left Westminster in 2010. Still, there’s a big history here!

Honestly, Burnham's going to be so overwhelmed by the situation he finds the country in, so he won't have time to do most of these things. The one I can see him doing is proportional representation. He does not have any mandate big enough to codify the constitution.
