Today marks a historic milestone in Indian politics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling to become the longest-serving head of a government in India.
Pawan Kumar Chamling served as CM for 8,930 days.
PM Modi has now completed 8,931 days in public office as head of government, across his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and now as Prime Minister.
This is a rare and remarkable feat, reflecting decades of continuous public service and leadership.
Some notable distinctions:
• Longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat
• Prime Minister with the longest prior experience as a Chief Minister
• First Prime Minister born after Independence
• Winner of three consecutive Lok Sabha elections 2014, 2019, and 2024
A milestone that underscores endurance, experience, and sustained public mandate.

Amid the war-like situation in West Asia, sections of the opposition are running a misinformation campaign to create panic around fuel shortages and price spikes. There is no need to be swayed.
With India importing nearly 88% of its crude oil, energy security is central to macroeconomic stability. Recognising risks from wars, sanctions, supply disruptions and price shocks, the government adopted a strategy based on the energy “trilemma” — availability, affordability and sustainability.
1️⃣ Diversification of Crude Supply
•India now imports crude from 40+ countries, including the USA, Russia, Brazil, Guyana and African nations.
•Post-2022, India increased discounted Russian crude imports from less than 1% to ~35%, cushioning domestic prices.
•Reduced vulnerability to West Asia tensions or Strait of Hormuz disruptions.
•Long-term supply discussions with emerging producers like Guyana.
•Excise duty reductions helped shield consumers from global spikes.
Fuel Price Comparison (Feb 2022 vs Feb 2026 | % increase)
India (Delhi):
•Petrol: ₹95.41 → ₹94.77 (–0.67%)
•Diesel: ₹86.67 → ₹87.67 (+1.15%)
While many countries saw sharp double-digit increases, India maintained stability.
2️⃣ Strategic Petroleum Reserves & Inventory Buffer
•25 days crude inventory + 25 days petrol/diesel inventory.
•Total cover: 7–8 weeks of crude & petroleum products.
•Only ~40% crude passes through Strait of Hormuz.
•Export restrictions can extend cover by 10 more days.
•LPG inventory: 18 days (extendable by 15 more days).
•Priority allocation for PNG households and CNG transport during disruptions.
3️⃣ Refining Capacity Expansion
•3rd largest crude importer
•4th largest refiner
•5th largest exporter of petroleum products
•Refining capacity target: ~309 MMTPA by 2030
•Integrated refineries allow processing of diverse crude grades.
4️⃣ LPG: Affordable Cooking Energy for All
Through Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 10.53 crore LPG connections were provided — coverage rose from ~55% (2014) to near universal.
•LPG distributors increased from ~13,900 to 25,000+.
•Despite a 16% rise in Saudi CP benchmark (Nov 2025–Feb 2026), domestic LPG prices remained unchanged.
•Effective PMUY price: ₹553 per cylinder.
•Cooking cost for PMUY household: ~₹7.31 per day.
India’s LPG prices remain among the lowest globally.
5️⃣ Boosting Domestic Production
•99% reduction in “No-Go” areas in EEZ — unlocking 1 million sq km.
•Revised Gas Pricing Guidelines (2023).
•Amendments to Oilfields (Regulation & Development) Act.
•2.5 lakh line km seismic data added.
•National Deepwater Mission launched.
•Focus on frontier basins like Andaman offshore.
6️⃣ Natural Gas & CGD Expansion
•Pipeline grid expanded from 15,000 km to ~26,000 km.
•1.6 crore PNG connections.
•8,500 CNG stations.
•8 LNG terminals (52.7 MMTPA capacity).
•CGD expanded across hundreds of districts.
7️⃣ Ethanol & Biofuels Push
Ethanol blending rose from ~1.5% (2014) to ~20% today — five years ahead of target.
Impact (2014–Jan 2026):
•₹1.66 lakh crore forex savings
•851 lakh MT CO₂ reduction
•283 lakh MT crude substitution
•₹2.45 lakh crore paid to distillers
•₹1.47 lakh crore paid to farmers
8️⃣ Green Energy Transition
•Green hydrogen, EVs, CBG promotion.
•PSUs targeting 900 KTPA green hydrogen by 2030.
•27,722 EV charging stations; 1,306 battery-swapping stations.
•134 operational CBG plants (920 TPD capacity).
9️⃣ Continuous Monitoring
•24×7 control rooms during geopolitical tensions.
•Real-time monitoring of inventories and logistics.
•Prioritised supply allocation for critical sectors.
Over the past decade, India has built a resilient, diversified and forward-looking energy security framework.
Despite global instability and war-like conditions in West Asia, the Modi Government has ensured that Indian citizens are protected from supply shocks and runaway fuel inflation.

FactCheck
Rebuttal on Allegations of Duplicate Voters in Bihar’s Draft Rolls (SIR 2025) on the report of the reporters collective
1. The SIR is an ongoing statutory process carried out under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
The current draft rolls published under the SIR are not final. They are explicitly intended for public scrutiny, inviting claims and objections from electors, political parties, and all other stakeholders.
Any alleged duplication at the draft stage cannot be construed as a “final error” or “illegal inclusion,” as the law provides a remedy through the claims/objections period and subsequent verification by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
2. On Allegations of Duplicate Voters
The figure of 67,826 “dubious duplicates” cited in the media report is based on data-mining and subjective matching of name/relative/age combinations. These parameters, without documentary and field verification, cannot conclusively prove duplication.
In Bihar, especially rural constituencies, it is common for multiple individuals to share identical names, parental names, and even similar ages. The Supreme Court has recognized such demographic similarities as insufficient proof of duplication without field inquiry Nevertheless, if Demographically Similar Entries are found, they are being identified and removed during the claims and objections period. In such cases, all stakeholders can inform the Electoral Registration Officer, file their objections, and necessary action can be taken."
3. On ECI’s Deduplication Mechanism
The ECI uses its ERONET 2.0 software for detecting Demographically Similar Entries (DSEs), which flags probable duplicates.
These flagged cases are not automatically deleted but are subjected to ground verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and EROs. This layered process ensures genuine electors are not disenfranchised by an automated algorithm.
In the case of Valmikinagar, it must be stated that a detailed report regarding the 5,000 persons alleged to be duplicates should be provided. Only then can any investigation be considered relevant. Merely giving out a number on an imaginary basis does not establish any fact as correct."
4. On the Alleged Cases Highlighted
Instances like “Anjali Kumari” of Triveniganj or “Ankit Kumar” of Laukaha are individual anecdotes from the draft roll. These may arise from clerical error, migration-related multiple applications, or misreporting at household level.
Each such case is subject to correction upon verification during the claims and objections window (ending 1st September 2025). The legal process is still open. Form 8 have been filled for both cases of Anjali Kumari and Ankit Kumar.
5. On Machine-Readability Allegation
The allegation that ECI “locked” electoral data to prevent machine-scale analysis is misplaced.
Under Rule 22 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, electoral rolls are made available in prescribed formats to ensure integrity and prevent misuse. Making rolls “non-scrapable” is a data protection safeguard, not an attempt to conceal duplication. Honourable Supreme court already issued directions on this in the case of Kamalnath vs Election commission of India 2018.
6. On Statistical Extrapolation by Reporters
The extrapolation that “lakhs of duplicates could exist statewide” is speculative and legally untenable. Courts have repeatedly held that allegations of large-scale duplication must be substantiated with verified evidence, not statistical projections.
7. On Legal Safeguards
Section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 empowers EROs to delete names of duplicates if conclusive proof emerges. Hence, there exists a statutory mechanism to continuously address duplication.
Any elector or booth level agent of any political party suspecting duplication has locus standi to file a specific objection under Rule 13 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
The presence of some provisional duplicate entries in the draft roll does not invalidate the SIR exercise.
The draft roll is subject to continuous scrutiny, objections, and statutory corrections until the final list is published.
Therefore, the report’s conclusions that the SIR “facilitates fraud” or that duplicates will decisively impact elections are speculative, premature, and contrary to the legal framework governing electoral roll management.
