@techdevnotes They're already behind and are month over when they said it would drop so... at this point it's vaporware to me It'll probably only be for Heavy subs anyway so what's the point in being excited? @grok @xai

Honestly, model transitions have not been super smooth in 2026 for xAI/SpaceXAI, so I would do whatever it takes to deliver one solid, reliable product that just works "out of the box". Grok Build won't be just a new feature; it has to make sense to disrupt workflows for people who already found rhythm with Claude Code or Codex. Eventually the novelty of these programs will wear off and people/organizations will not be as willing to pivot to try the next new thing, so they need to get this right.

xAI just needs to seem like its alive. I know most people are not at SpaceXAI so there is likely some transitioning going on right now but they need to wake up and release stuff. I still have hope by year's end they will lead the entire AI race here but was hoping for a big summer.

@techdevnotes It's not going well so far. The release of connectors and skills has completely nuked usability of regular grok voice and text modes. It's not going to be very competitive when Anthropic and openai can do both well. I really hope they get it fixed soon.

@techdevnotes I have a feeling there's a Grok code model in training they're waiting on in order to make a good first impression. The launch is incredibly important for something like this.

@techdevnotes XAI is all talking and non deliver. Connectors are nothing. I see zero improvement comparing to Claude and Codex.

I only want to use my subscription with more complex work. Codex changed the way I used to work with generative AI. I know when Grok is better than ChatGPT and when it is worse. I want to use both in the same project. The raw API in more complex than Codex ou chatbot, as grok too.

@techdevnotes Grok 4.3 with OpenCode have been pretty unusable unfortunately. So I think they either have to make a magic harness or release a stronger model. I’m a heavy user of codex and Claude and there is still a big gap for real work.

@techdevnotes If they release it with the current build then when the 1T model releases it will be the biggest wow factor.

@techdevnotes I think that's the reason why Grok Build hasn't rolled out. Elon said the 1T model should be ready Early May so I almost wonder if we will get the 1T model before Grok Build.

@techdevnotes In theory it should make the existing models better. For instance standard tools done use full 1M context.

@techdevnotes The 1T model probably won't be available via API from day 1, so I don't think waiting makes much sense here.

This kind of strategical thinking only prolongs empty hype cycles I think. Both are really cool developments, and don’t really take away from one another. If something is ready, I say share it, and just keep moving ahead. If something is called for, then share it even if it isn’t quite ready. And if you can’t meet the call, then share what you can, and hope that your lack will be made up for by whoever comes to carry you.

The bigger issue isn’t just waiting for a bigger model — it’s whether Grok Build offers something meaningfully different from Codex or Claude Code. If it’s just another wrapper with similar UX, even a 1T backend won’t save the first impression. What would actually move the needle is tight integration with X data, real-time context, or unique agent workflows that others don’t have yet.

@techdevnotes I think just shipping, then improve as you go but I suppose some strategy of waiting till its more polished is better.. depends what they are trying to do. But yeah I would love to play around with grok build
