This got bad enough that I had my kids come home. Protesters marched and yelled through the school halls for hours. Police and administrators just followed the kids around. Other students, including my children, didn’t feel safe. The Provo School District sent the email below, which was just an attempt to gaslight everyone. This was not a simple protest outside campus property. It was an angry parade through the halls of the school, disrupting classes and making other students feel unsafe. ************** “Dear Provo City School District Families, We are aware that students across the country, including in Utah, have participated in or discussed walking out of school to express concerns related to federal immigration enforcement and other national issues. We want to share how Provo City School District approaches situations like this at our high schools. We want you to know how much we care about our students and our school communities. Like you, we want our students to feel safe, supported, and prepared for a successful future. We respect that students may have strong feelings about issues that affect them, their families, and their communities. At the same time, our responsibility as a district is to maintain safe, orderly schools and to ensure that teaching and learning continue for all students. Student walkouts during the school day are not organized or endorsed by the district. If a high school student chooses to leave campus during the school day, the student will be marked absent for the time they are not in school. Parents or guardians will be contacted, and it will be the parent’s responsibility to excuse the absence according to district procedures. During any such activity, our focus remains student safety and well-being. School administrators and staff will supervise campuses and respond as needed to maintain a calm and respectful learning environment. When Charlie Kirk was killed, I saw Mormons supporting the Christians. When Mormons were shot and an LDS church burned down (by an Evangelical), I saw those same Christians use that tragedy to make sure people knew Mormons were not Christian. It still bothers me.
