At the 1335th #AU Peace & Security Council meeting: Update on the Situation in #Madagascar. Chaired by Amb. Almon Mahlaba Mamba of #Eswatini. In his remarks, Comm. @Bankole_Adeoye @AUC_PAPS stressed the need to respect timelines in #Madagascar’s transition roadmap and ensure inclusivity, plurality and transparency. He raised concern over self-succession and called for continued AU–SADC cooperation.   AU Special Envoy to #Madagascar, @AmbMedIdriss briefed the Council on the situation in #Madagascar. #Malawi, Chair of the #SADC Organ on Politics, Defence & Security Cooperation, also addressed the meeting. 1/2

Today, @FemWiseAfrica Women Mediators convened a reflective session marking 25 years of #UNSCR1325, taking stock of progress, persistent challenges, and emerging priorities for women’s mediation in Africa. Interventions by Pezu Mukwakwa, Chafiaa Djouadi and Pétronille Vaveka Rutaya reaffirmed that transformative and sustainable peace is impossible without women’s leadership. African women mediators continue to shape dialogue, prevent conflicts, and build bridges across communities. @FemWiseAfrica reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the role of African women mediators, and expanding pathways for their meaningful inclusion in peace processes across the continent. #FemWiseAfrica #UNSCR1325

Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the Tragic Helicopter Crash in #Ghana. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf @ymahmoudali , has learned with deep sorrow of the tragic helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region of the Republic of Ghana, which claimed the lives of eight people, including Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Hon. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. The Chairperson conveys his heartfelt condolences to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, the Government and people of Ghana, and the bereaved families of all those who lost their lives in this national tragedy. He also expresses his solidarity with the Ghana Armed Forces and the ruling National Democratic Congress during this difficult time. H.E. @BelgiumMFA it’s funny how after 3 weeks of submission for a visa my passport is still in the keeping of the #BelgianEmbassy in #Cameroon as if people don’t have other travel plans and need for their passports. Your visa application process is annoying and terribly frustrating 🤦‍♀️
