@chancerlastly @lionel_trolling "Following the war, neo-Nazis and other white supremacists resurrected the Totenkopf as a hate symbol because of its importance to the SS and it has been a common hate symbol since." You're just wrong. Your own admission of ignorance does not negate the common knowledge of others

@CooperGlass12 @lionel_trolling It really isn't. Maybe it's "common knowledge" among a certain kind of American lol, but it's absolutely not a widely known or used symbol in Europe, either one of the symbols associated with Nazis historically or used by Neo-Nazis.

Look, to be clear I'm not anti-Platner, I want him to beat collins, but for the sake of just being honest with ourselves—he's very well read and curious and also he didn't know what a totenkopf was—bit of a tension there
Zaid Jilani@ZaidJilani

I know people who know Platner well and what I’ve picked up privately is he’s extremely well read and curious. I’ve met and conversed with dozens of politicians and we are awash in empty suits who can’t read a book.

Schutzstaffel is literally what SS is, doesnt mean lightning bolts and isnt the name of the signage or anything. But yes, the SS sign is unique and instantly recognizable. So is the swastika. But here this is just skull and bones. Its also a British army symbol. Its also a pirate symbol. Its also a fraternity symbol. Heck its even generic danger warning symbol

@skytopjf Why is it that whenever this topic gets brought up a so many people come out of the woodwork to essentially proclaim that they, too, are so ignorant that they would've gotten a Nazi tattoo if given the opportunity.

All the comments saying “well I actually study 1943-1945 panzer designs and I don’t know what that symbol is,” meanwhile the concept of it is ingrained culturally enough we have this sketch video:

@lionel_trolling Err lots of well-read people don't know what totenkopf was. I didn't. Did you know what it was before Platner? Ask any well-read person you know if they did.

@chancerlastly @lionel_trolling That is just false. It is one of the most widely recognizable Nazi symbols. This is like arguing the SS thunderbolts are "not widely identifiable"

Well yeah, those opposed to South African apartheid wanted equality for Black South Africans. Those opposed to Israel want to slaughter every man, woman, and child, particularly the Jews, but they'll settle for beheading nearby Thai immigrants that they'll call collaborators.
john schlagenheim 🐊@cloudofposting

It’s kinda crazy. I’ve heard of zero Israeli or Jewish PLO (or related) fighters in my life. Even South Africa had its white anti apartheid fighters, Israel just has no equivalent.

@ScooteristSuper @rafaelshimunov It is worn as a symbol of religious devotion. Don't be silly. Same thing as an Anabaptist woman wearing a kapp, or an Orthodox Jewish man wearing a kippah, or an Orthodox Christian woman wearing a veil.

In New York, my friends who cover their hair or heads in Muslim and Jewish spaces, my friends who take their shoes off at South Asian temples, my friends who turn off and on lights for Jews on shabbat, who order vegetarian when with Hindus and Buddhists aren't doing so out of oppression but out of love and respect.
Masih Alinejad 🏳️@AlinejadMasih

Wow, shocking, this is @AOC respond: You find hijab "fun." #MahsaAmini called it a death sentence. That's not a custom. That's not a fun learning experience. That's a woman's life. Women live under Sharia laws are not your cultural tourism. We are dying for the freedom you performed as hospitality. You represent New York City. I live in New York City too , I find it interesting that my congresswoman can wear hijab and smile for a photo, up, but didn’t find time to show up to federal court in New York when 4 hitmen hired by an Islamic regime comes to kill a New Yorker. Anyway, I'll be in New York court in August facing Islamic regime’s hitman #5. Solidarity, right? Or it’s nut fun!

@avygal @Mottel We seem to be talking past each other. I respectfully disagree with you about how one identifies vs what actually makes them Jewish. Have a good day.

She started ide tidying as Jewish about 10 years ago. Which was about a decade into me knowing her and her never telling our group of friends she’s of Jewish heritage, even when we discussed it and we invited fellow Jews to Jewish events and holidays. She firmly identified as Puerto Rican only

For the billionth time, I know Molly. She wasn't raised Jewish and only identified as Puerto Rican when I met her. Back then identifying as "PoC" had the most cultural currency in leftist movements. (Her skin is lighter than mine by far but ok) Now in leftist movements you have IMMENSE cultural currency if you are an antizionist Jew. Molly is not a Jew.
The Economist@TheEconomist

Jews in the diaspora who want to celebrate their heritage without tying themselves to Israel might look to the Bundist concept of “hereness”, which a new book by Molly Crabapple celebrates economist.com/culture/2026/0…

@avygal @Mottel I understand, but I am telling you that unless you can prove your claim about her mother's heritage (which you have not provided evidence for), then she is Jewish. Full stop. Sorry if that annoys you. Halakha is Halakha.

@CooperGlass12 @Mottel Pretty sure her mom is half Jewish and not matrilineal And no if you are ethnically half Jewish but not raised Jewish And have very little or no connection to Jewishness you should not platform yourself as a Jew much less write a fucking book on it

@avygal @Mottel So now we are deciding to go against Halakha all of a sudden and declare a matrilinial Jew is not a "real Jew"? It doesn't matter how she was raised nor how she used to identify. You are contradicting the most basic principle of religious Judaism with your attempt to smear her.

@Mottel I met her 20 years ago and she did not identify as Jewish and wasn’t raised Jewish. Using partial Jewish ancestry as a political tool is not Jewish. And I’m not sure her mom is even matrilineally Jewish.

@dinodoodeTV @gayest_tone The Rwandan genocide was not industrialized, which is what OP is arguing and what most genocide scholars have come to a consensus on. That actually is an important distinction, despite both obviously being unimaginably horrific.

I think we might be losing the plot a little. The Holocaust was uniquely horrific for several other reasons, such as the industrialized extermination it entailed. The fact Zionism has modified the memory doesn’t change that reality.
Romario Chevez🇨🇺🔻@ChevezRomario

@eemaanishere @autisticswana People see the Swastika as the pinnacle of evil specifically because of Jewish supremacy. Not anti-communism or anti-slav, anti-roma or whatever. Meanwhile the leading genocidal doctrines that have killed millions prior and post WW2 get to fly their flags 🇮🇱🇺🇸🇬🇧🇫🇷 in peace.

Lady, and I say this as the grandson of a woman who converted, you don’t get to complain about idpol if you convert to Judaism. It’s like a fish complaining about there being too much water. Come on
Rachel Moiselle@RachelMoiselle

In left-wing identity categorisations, the woman on the left is regarded as brown and the woman on the right a white European coloniser. Imagine how much propaganda it has taken that this has become a widespread belief. They look like sisters.

@steveplotnicki @drownedhalls @HandalaSpeaks3 @infinite_jaz @ADL I apparently didn't answer clearly enough for you last time. Yes, NYC is a better place to grow up, as is Boston (where my folks landed). My point is that their moving there should be a CHOICE, not forced. Are you understanding my argument or do I need to repeat it again?

@steveplotnicki @drownedhalls @HandalaSpeaks3 @infinite_jaz @ADL You implied it. Is my family better off having escaped the Kishinev pogrom? Yes. Would it have been less traumatic if the pogrom never happened and they had left by choice? Also yes. The fact you cannot see the moral flaws in your logic is very concerning.

@steveplotnicki @drownedhalls @HandalaSpeaks3 @infinite_jaz @ADL This is a genuinely insane thing to say. It is not a controversial statement to say that people should have a choice to move or not move. That choice is their own to make. Ethnic cleansing is wrong morally and legally, it is mind-blowing that you are arguing otherwise.
