@sinowarrior01 @ChongyiF @PhelimKine @LiYuan6 You can't use propaganda to prove propaganda. 5% growth rate is "tanking"? It literally says "because of deflation and a weak currency". So it's only due to low prices (you like high inflation in many other countries?) currency exchange rate. This is why there is PPP GDP

@AngelicaOung Taiwan is FAR FAR better than china in all aspects. China is literally a Orwellian hellhole, the people are treated no different to cattles. They didn't even have basic autonomy over their own reproductive system untill recently, how utterly PITIFUL. Why u so against Taiwan??

@AngelicaOung 俄罗斯原子能机构还负责最后废料处理,大部分应该是深埋到西伯利亚无人区了,这一点,对于人口密集的国家来说,非常重要,你不需要担心核废料污染自己国家环境。

Just so that you know…if you need a nuclear power plant and you’re a nuclear newcomer country, better call RosAtom. They offer the whole package from construction to training to fuel. Unbeatable financing. The Chinese are good builders but new to the game of exporting. Koreans are decent if you have to go like-minded democracy I won’t name the others because I’ve been told if you can’t say anything nice you shouldn’t say anything at all!

@ahjkljl @AngelicaOung No. The biggest source of animus isn’t that Vietnam is being revanchist about some 5,000 year old claims, it’s that China literally tried to invade Vietnam in ‘79 and kept a border war going for the next decade after they lost. That’s a lot to come back from but both are trying.

@AngelicaOung @goofieguru It's not like China will make them eat the loss🤷‍♂️. Tbf, you need to be more specific to show your point. I only see "less long-term waste management" as China's con while China does have the 2 IMPORTANT pros of faster build and lower cost.

@goofieguru C’mon Rosatom is good. And they are reliable and give you a turnkey price so even if they are late (and they are not late compared to Europeans or Americans) you are not eating the loss.

@KnowBothSides @AngelicaOung At no point was I talking about contemporary China. It's you who got triggered for no reason to jump in CCP's defense for an insult that doesn't exist and reply w/ deranged nonsequiturs. Perhaps look into the mirror as you are behaving the same way as kneejerk China-bad ppl.

Angelica is going to Istanbul! I'm splurging a little for the non-stop flights from Taipei to Istanbul but I feel like I can justify it because...um the flights would have been thru Dubai and I didn't want the extra excitement. Istanbul will be excitement enough as it is! I have been yearning to visit Türkiye for at least three years, ever since I fell in love with Ottoman history, which is dramatic, entrancing, but also kind of compact you know. 36 sultans continuous in the House of Osman over 600 years. Very different from the unmanagably shaggy Chinese history...but it's also surprising how the same themes and tropes come up. Of course...it's not just for the history I'm going for. I'm also going to be checking out Türkiye's magnificent foods! There will be a lot of elite kebabs in my future. And I hear Ottoman-core recreated palace foods is now a thing. And of course, let's not forget...the cats! But wait! There's more! Actually my trip to Istanbul is just a wrapper for my first-ever visit to the @dalkeybookfest where you will find me on panels on Taiwan, China, nuclear energy and more with luminaries such as @SonyKapoor @ProfPaulBehrens @PerneInAGyre @MkBlyth @janabakunina and @davidmcw! So any mutuals in Istanbul...is there a favorite baklava place you know where we can have Turkish coffee so thicc it violates physics? Let's meet up! And of course...there's still time to pick up tickets to the Dalkey Book Fest for the true lovers of the printed word, and pints! June 16-18 Istanbul Jun 18-22 Dalkey Book Fest! June 22-25 Istanbul Part Deux

REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND@RepOfSomaliland·
🇨🇳The Government of the People’s Republic of China stop the hypocrisy! In 1960, under Premier Zhou Enlai and Foreign Minister Chen Yi, you recognized the State of Somalilands independence—when the PRC was still fighting for full international recognition. Here’s the telegram you sent to our leaders. You needed legitimacy then. Now you “express grave concern” and oppose Israel 🇮🇱 recognizing Republic of Somaliland. Same principle. Different standard. That’s hypocrisy.
REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND tweet media
CHINA MFA Spokesperson 中国外交部发言人@MFA_China

China expresses grave concern over Israel’s recognition of #Somaliland and is firmly against it. China notes the statement issued immediately by the government of the Federal Republic of Somalia firmly rejecting the move. Regional organizations and countries, including the African Union, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Intergovernmental Authority on Development, have also deplored and strongly condemned the move. According to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, Somaliland is an inalienable part of Somalia’s territory. China firmly supports Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and opposes any move to split its territory. The issue of Somaliland is entirely Somalia’s internal affair. It should be resolved by the Somali people in a way suited to their national conditions and in line with the constitution. Countries outside the region should stop unwarranted interference. No country should seek selfish interests by aiding and abetting separatism in other countries. We urge the Somaliland authorities to stop at once their separatist activities and collusion with external forces.

@CompleteTuring @AngelicaOung You wonder cuz you have this sense of superiority (fuxk it) - "Atatürk was such a great leader that if he had led China, he could have done much better than any Chinese leader and China would have been much better off". I don't see any other reason to put a Turkish leader in CN

January’s conspiracy theory is now March’s New York Times article. But I’m curious. What happened to their strategic sequencing? Surely it should have been decapitation followed by inciting riots. My theory which could totally be wrong is the demonstrations were organic at first and they saw an opportunity to piggyback onto it. But a lot of assets got burned and communications cut so they didn’t have resources for round 2.
Aaron Bastani@AaronBastani

Interesting we are already at the point where there’s tacit admission that Mossad have been involved in protests inside Iran. Grievances have been very real, of course, but this coheres with accounts of starlink units and firearms coming into the country via Israel.

The KMT’s vision was a vision that was supported by all Chinese people in the past (make China strong and resist foreign interference). That they share this with the CPC means absolutely nothing since any sane Chinese person would have those views. They were unable to execute it.
Jason Dean@_Jason_Dean_

One level of cope is believing that Taiwan has a snowball’s chance in hell of resisting reunification The deeper (more truthful) level of cope is recognizing that the modern day CCP is closer to the KMT in terms of ideology, so Chiang wins either way

It’s hilarious if true that Americans thought Iran would go down in any way shape or form like Iran. Saddam’s Iraq was a one-man show where he had a habit of executing ppl who bought him bad news and was so afraid of coups he kept branches of his armies from talking to each other. Apparently even when the Americans were hours away from rolling in on Bagdad he was still directing ghost divisions that’s been long out of action. It’s possible also that since he was our guy for such a long time he didn’t think we were really out to get him. In Iran the ayatollah was a 86-year old man waiting for the bell to ring and we’ve already done so many decapitation of their leaders in the IRGC before they’ve explicitly decentralized command.
Aaron Bastani@AaronBastani

It does increasingly feel like large numbers of people in US, Europe and Israel just presumed Iran would roll over because they are a brown Muslim country. A domestic industrial base? No way. Can’t be overstated how much people’s biases were shaped by how stupid this man was.
