@iainmartin1 What was the nature of their objection, it doesn't seem clearly explained? £1.5B investment for the Highlands, 1500 jobs... quite a prize!

@wsctb @CitySamuel Interesting how oil wasn't enough to sustain an indy Scotland in 2014, but is being framed as a saviour to the entire UK economy now?

@CitySamuel There's no oil left according to Labour, Conservatives, LibDems, Gordon Brown, and the BBC. We're too wee, too poor & too stupid in Scotland apparently.

@AndrewBowie_MP Yes 1.4 m homes at peak performance for up to 10 years but it would still be sold on the International market and would not be cheaper for people. So what's your point?

The Jackdaw field alone could provide the equivalent of 250 million barrels of oil in natural gas, and could be up and running by Christmas. But because of Ed Miliband and the Labour Party it is stuck in limbo. Keeping us ever more reliant on imports. Madness.

Prog 471 This is a proper old school 2000AD body horror cover, but as usual the impact is undermined by another promotional banner "Aaaaargh! I'm exploding into atoms, but reader, you could nab yourself a free novelty clock, so it's not all searing agony and total obliteration."

@CraigHouston_ Takes years to design & build frigates. The first Type 26 is taking 10 years, with later versions taking 5 + years. Definitely the tories fault if navy is short of hullls today.

Let me get this right, after 18 months you say its the Tory governments fault that you've done nothing about under funded defence but you did manage in that time to 1) Rob pensioners of their heating allowance 2) Respect your promise to Ester Rantzen to get an assisted dying bill in to parliament. The Torys were bad but you are actually 10x worse.

🚨KEIR STARMER LOSES TEMPER AT MILITARY COMMITTEE You've left us undefended The Military are completely underfunded and underprepared "This smacks of a lack of warfighting mentality" Starmer is devastated he's being called out for being weak

@KevinBurns63 @Bounce_BackLoan If we don't have enough ships in 2026, it's because they were not planned and paid for in previous decades. Tories cut defence brutally, they even tried to cancel the carriers. Also put trident funding in core MoD budget - a huge, enduring cut.

Watch as Keir Starmer gets his arse handed to him on a plate in the Liaison Committee "You are at peace while we are actually at war" Even Winston Churchill gets a mention.

@Amelia558rs Nah, that makes that no sense at all. In the UK pension contributions up to £60,000 per year are not taxed, only taxed when drawn. And even then you can take 25% of your total pension pot as a tax-free lump sum.

@WarMonitor3 A direct comparison is quite tricky? The defence budget in 1980 was £10 Billion, it's nearly £70B today. ...also UK GDP was £206B in 1980, today it's £3 Trillion. 2026 UK military is much more capable than the 1980 version, in all but volume.

Britains military is completely degraded from years of chronic underfunding and is a shadow of even its Cold War Power: -Army just 72,000 personnel -Just 14 destroyers or frigates -Only 200 MBT and even less artillery -Only 2.3 percent GDP spending

@Danboats @GH81573850 @RobertJenrick Norwegian production is also taxed at 78% , the big difference is they've maintained a stable tax environment for 30+ years, allowing for exploration and decommissioning cost tax deductions. Labour cut all tax breaks for investment and will not issue licenses. Utter madness.

@GH81573850 @RobertJenrick He’s talking about gas. Also, we tax imports at 0% whilst UK production is currently taxed at 78%. How exactly would it not be beneficial to produce our own, and reap all the associated economic benefits?
