@HerbsandDirt Two years ago, when Biden was still POTUS, I put 12 gallons of regular gas into my Snapper Pro zero-turn and spent $50 doing it.

@luinalaska Not if the kids didn't do a think to increase the family wealth when the wealth wasn't there. Not if the kids are entitled brats. Not if the kids only look at the parents as banknotes and not trad-kids. But in a "normal" family this question would never come up, so why now?

It is morally wrong to not pass generational financial security to your own children if you have the means to do so. It is also selfish and stupid.
Kenneth Kirk PC@KennethKirkPC

@luinalaska A lot of the responses to this, conflate "it's good to give to your kids/grandkids" (100% agree) with "You are morally wrong not to give". Those are very different statement, especially coming from those who would wish to receive.

Good call by ABC. The Bachelorette should go back to casting single women without kids. I'm going to say something unpopular, but true. First, let's be clear, she was the abusive one here. Not acceptable, and it's right that they moved on. Second, it's dangerous and unfair to your children to actively pursue dating as a single mom. Children living with a mother's new partner are 40x more likely to be abused than children living with two biological parents. Your kids have one parent. And those years go by quick. If love finds you, great. I believe everyone deserves love. But going out looking for it is a different thing entirely, and bringing someone into your home the way this show does, isn't it. Those children don't get to consent to any of this. Not a broken home, not a stranger being brought in, not TV cameras in their face. They don't get a vote. The Bachelorette casting moms is done with good intent. But it's messy. Go back to the 20 year olds or the Boomers finding love again. Children should never be wrapped up in this. I'm sorry hers was.

At 4 weeks postpartum I was: sleeping 3 *nonconsecutive* hours a night; breastfeeding every 2 hours for at least 30 min a session, so about 6 hours a day; and bleeding through everything I wore. If men did this, the whole fucking world would be structured around parental leave.

@isaiah_bb We'd do fine. We'd be really ticked off, of course, because we already paid the prices involving bologna sammiches, no subscriptions, "date nights" involving pizza while Sis babysat for 3 hours, and 4-day weekend "vacations" not to mention first house a 50-year-old "fixer-upper."

I think it would be a really great reality tv show to take a couple dozen boomers, ideally recently retired, and give them entry level white-collar jobs in high cost of living cities and basically just saying "Go try to live."

You also don’t walk out of college or university expecting to buy a new 4 bedroom house, two cars, boats, skidoos, etc. The reason you struggle is because you aren’t willing to wait and make do like we did. Your entitlement is causing you to struggle.

@MichelleDBackus @MrPitbull07 It's a BS story. If the child was <2, a lap ticket must be purchased if a full ticket isn't. If the child is > 2, or if a lap ticket isn't purchased, the parent must purchase a full seat ticket and provide a car seat for the child. Has no one in this thread ever flown before?

@MrPitbull07 So basically, the mother declined to purchase a seat for her child and opted to hold it on her lap. She then expected a person who paid for a seat for her own comfort and comfort to fellow passengers to allow her child to use that seat for free. The mother is an entitled a**hole

A flight turned tense after a disagreement between two passengers over an extra seat. According to the account shared online, a plus-size traveler had intentionally purchased two seats for the flight. She explained that she wanted enough space to sit comfortably and avoid making other passengers uncomfortable during the journey. But during boarding, the situation quickly changed. A mother traveling with a toddler approached the woman and asked if the child could use the empty seat next to her. The traveler declined, explaining that she had paid for the seat specifically for extra space. The conversation escalated. The mother reportedly complained to a flight attendant, arguing that the seat could be used by her child instead. The passenger then showed both of her boarding passes, proving she had purchased and reserved the extra seat. In the end, the airline allowed the woman to keep the seat she paid for. The toddler was expected to sit on the parent’s lap, which is a common arrangement permitted for very young children on flights. Despite the resolution, the woman later said she felt uncomfortable for the rest of the flight, claiming she received disapproving looks and passive-aggressive comments from other passengers. When the story spread online, it sparked debate. Some people argued that since she paid for the seat, she had every right to keep it. Others believed she should have given it up for the child. The moment turned into another viral discussion about airline etiquette, personal space, and whether paying for something automatically settles the debate.

@DorLinder Grok: "Wind turbine technicians in the U.S. earn a median annual salary of approximately $62,580 ($30.09 per hour) as of May 2024, with top earners exceeding $88,000 annually. Salaries range from roughly $49,000 for entry-level to over $90,000 for experienced technicians..."

A person who services a wind turbine or a “Wind Technician,” makes 20K a month. Once a month, he climbs to the top of each turbine and takes care of the sensors on top. It takes a half an hour on a small elevator to get to the top. Each technician wears harnesses for protection. The money involved in these turbines is insane.

@cd_hooks Probably not, because 1, jet fuel isn't that affected by crude oil prices, and 2, most people don't buy tickets so far ahead that fuel prices aren't factored in already.

Unpopular pastoral opinion: Losing the midweek gathering of the church and replacing it with “small groups” in homes on various nights has been a net negative for the fortification and mission of the church. There are positives, there are negatives. Overall, it’s been an L.
