The Afroman Trial. -Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons. -Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up. -No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman. -Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras. -Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives. -During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat. -The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation. -Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit. -Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them. -One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife. -As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE. -The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman. This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

@inababi Same situation here, time for me to take a walk lol. Just about to finish updating this pipeline, it’ll have to wait until tomorrow. I know they’ve been scaling at a massive rate lately, but it would be nice to have less interruptions.

@OhAnotherAlt Yeah I’ve been debugging for 8 hrs straight now. Time for a break clearly but I was just about to re-wire something and now I have to stop right in the middle of it. Sorry your workflow is affected too 😭 I have no more empathy left for the Claude team. Zero.

Alex and team have been spending lots of time thinking about middot truncation for the new Trees library by the Pierre Computer Company. Last night he came across a novel approach to truncation that leverages container queries in a css grid to detect the *moment* of truncation. The solution works on first render from css with no js, fully SSR compatible. Even copy paste works.

this is actually insane > be tech guy in australia > adopt cancer riddled rescue dog, months to live > not_going_to_give_you_up.mp4 > pay $3,000 to sequence her tumor DNA > feed it to ChatGPT and AlphaFold > zero background in biology > identify mutated proteins, match them to drug targets > design a custom mRNA cancer vaccine from scratch > genomics professor is “gobsmacked” that some puppy lover did this on his own > need ethics approval to administer it > red tape takes longer than designing the vaccine > 3 months, finally approved > drive 10 hours to get rosie her first injection > tumor halves > coat gets glossy again > dog is alive and happy > professor: “if we can do this for a dog, why aren’t we rolling this out to humans?” one man with a chatbot, and $3,000 just outperformed the entire pharmaceutical discovery pipeline. we are going to cure so many diseases. I dont think people realize how good things are going to get

“WTBU” is one of the most useful communication technologies I know of. It stands for “Watch Team Back-Up”, I believe it originated to reduce mistakes on nuclear submarines. You prepend it to a message to someone where you’re pointing out something that might be obvious, but you want to check/confirm that they’re on top of it. For example, you might say “WTBU: you checked that we’re cleared to share this info with XYZ person?” It takes the pressure/ego out of the message, by letting you communicate something to the effect of “I’m not saying this because I think you’re incompetent/dumb, so ignore this if it isn’t relevant/useful—I just really want to make sure we don’t mess up/make silly mistakes, and smart/competent people can make silly mistakes!”—except once you’ve coordinated on using the letters WTBU to communicate that, you can just say “WTBU:”. This lets you now check basic/obvious things with coworkers much more easily and with less ego/emotion, which makes it much easier to catch mistakes in advance. Worth considering adopting into your org as a standard communication practice!

Is there no place to simply get news on Iran, Israel, the Gulf, US forces and the Middle East? Everyone is cheerleading for something or the other. I want to know what is actually happeing to first approximation. How are you accomplishing this if at all? Thx in advance.

Hypothetically, ai research will still exist as a field in 2027 Hypothetically , if someone wanted to spend the next 9mo upskilling to be an AI researcher, what does that look like? What are the type of outputs labs would expect? Any existing study tracks that are valuable?

Why in the world can’t we subscribe to calendars for Formula 1 races, Beats 1 shows, or Apple Podcasts releases? Apple should make it easy to put schedules like these directly into the Calendar app.

I hope designers are starting to notice the much larger size of the iceberg that is software creation. Everything requires infrastructure. (Rasmus ofc understands this. It’s appreciated that this is being communicated more directly to the design discipline.)

@jisnuzai @tuhin For some simple UI, yes, a prototype can work but for anything relatively complex I think you need “schematics” to reveal all state, edge cases, etc. You want to do the opposite of simplifying.

Wait… are they about to nuke Fordow? Why would people 16 km away need to evacuate if the strikes are so precise? Israel does not have a conventional weapon that can dig that deep. Only the US can deliver something like the GBU-57, which clearly failed last time. If it is the US, why would the US not be the one issuing the warning? How would people in Iran even get that message with the internet down? Why is the New York Times the messenger?
NEXTA@nexta_tv

Israel has called on residents to evacuate the area near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, The New York Times reports The warning applies to civilians living near the city of Qom, located about 16 km from Fordow. The military urged people to immediately leave the industrial zone and published a map marking the area. The statement says staying there could pose a risk to life. Such warnings usually appear before possible strikes on specific sites. Fordow is one of the key facilities of Iran’s nuclear program. The uranium enrichment plant is built inside a mountain and is considered one of the most heavily protected nuclear complexes in the country.
