The real political problem for Trump with this deal is that it does nothing but hurt him.
People who can't stand him won't suddenly love him, no matter what he does.

If President Trump has surrendered to the Iranian regime and is paying it $300 billion in reparations, it’s difficult for him to simultaneously declare victory.
I want President Trump to succeed, and I want the Iranian regime to give up its highly enriched uranium, end its nuclear weapons and long-range missile programs, stop supporting terrorist proxies, and stop murdering and abusing the Iranian people.
But the current deal appears to do none of those things and, for now at least, leaves Iran relatively stronger than it was at the start of the war.
Nothing will make me happier than to discover that I️ am wrong and that this seeming defeat is the first stage of a secret rope-a-dope strategy designed to ultimately make America stronger and defeat our adversaries.

@alaynatreene I used to do this all the time in contract negotiations. “We don’t care about this provision bc we trust you, but we have to get this contract approved by Y and if it doesn’t have this wording in it they’ll probably reject it”

Getting Lebanon included in the Vance peace deal was an Iranian objective, not the U.S. - and one the U.S. initially resisted when the ceasefire was announced. To spin this as an American achievement is Orwellian.

This Iran agreement has deep structural flaws, not least of which are that neither the nuclear program nor Hezbollah are dealt with. Maybe later. We’ll see. For now, our ally Israel is on the outside looking in & neither the American people or Congress have seen the deal’s text.
