73% of institutional investors plan to increase crypto holdings this year. Not for price. For yield. The ones I talk to aren't buying tokens. They're allocating to yield-bearing stablecoin strategies. They're deploying to tokenized fixed-income vehicles. They're building payment rails on stablecoin infrastructure for their own transaction flows. Coinbase calls this the "second wave." The first wave was hedge funds and endowments seeking price exposure. This wave is banks and payment companies seeking yield and operational efficiency. Yield-bearing stablecoins have grown 13x in two years. On track to exceed $50 billion by end of 2026. Ethena's sUSDe: $3.47B at 4.3% APY. Sky Protocol's sUSDS: $4.58B at 4.25%. These are institutional-scale positions. Here's what it means for payments: the second wave of institutional capital doesn't just want yield on idle assets. It wants the yield to be productive. Connected to real commerce. Paying for things. A treasury that earns 4% yield and routes that yield to cover operational costs — supplier payments, subscription billing, payroll — is a treasury that operates at a lower effective cost than any card-based system. That's the institutional case for Yield-to-Pay. Not a consumer product. A treasury optimization model. The institutions see it. We're building it.
