@oodavid My comment is about these parklets. Not about parking spaces.

These ‘parklets’ were indeed meant for the local community. Hackney Council recently changed their purpose making them exclusive to customers. With no real benefit to the locals these spaces now only benefit a limited, non diverse clientele. Gentrification in action.

@BobFromAccounts ‘Heavy lifting’ is an understatement here. ‘Desperately irrelevant’ is a better qualification for your post, sir.

Strange how breaking the law is depicted as an ‘assault on drivers’ or a ‘war on motorists’. When they target phone theft, it's never a ‘war on phone thieves’. 75% of drivers exceed the 20mph limit.

@SpergDog69 Wilton Way is mostly fine, but our public spaces shouldn’t be misrepresented by people like Bob who have no consideration for those in the community suffering the adverse effects of traffic measures like the bus gate you mentioned, the local LTNs, and Richmond Rd’s bus gate.

@TogetherHackney That one is private yes but there's no seats on it, it's just a bit of decking essentially. I meant the one outside a shop which has benches etc. Wilton Way is fine as it is. The issue in Hackney is how mental Mare St, Graham Rd and Amhurt Rd are because of the new bus gate

@SpergDog69 There are a couple more in this short stretch of road. Including one meant to seat customers of a now failed business (a fancy restaurant). Unused apart for the dumping of rubbish bags and other litter.

@TogetherHackney There's one about 30 metres out of shot which isn't outside a shop and is free to use. The cafe in the picture is one of the most reasonably priced of its kind, it's cheaper than Costa for a latte lol

Instead of a few people storing their private property on the street, a much better use of public space is to remove a couple of parking spots to allow for tables and chairs. Beneficial for both businesses and the community.

Hey drivers! Fun fact: these cyclists on their daily commute, who probably don't even own a car, pay as much towards the roads, the upkeep of roads, and the building of roads as drivers do. Just so we're clear

@LTDAForum As I said, a minority of people who can't see the bigger picture and the benefits for millions of other Londoners and tourists. And you call me blinkered

I'll go out on a limb and say the only objections to this much-needed intervention on Oxford Street are a few London black cab drivers who won't approve of anything good for Londoners unless it benefits themselves.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan@MayorofLondon

Coming soon: a traffic-free Oxford Street. Following strong public and business support, we’re moving at pace with plans to pedestrianise the heart of the West End. A full mile between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is set to go traffic-free by the end of this summer. mylondon.news/news/zone-1-ne…

@BobFromAccounts I don’t even need to go out on a limb and will just state the obvious: you sir, typically ignore (and have no consideration for) those who genuinely suffer the adverse effects of traffic displacement.

London poll puts Greens on 28%, Labour 24%, Cons 21%, Lib Dems 13%, Reform 11%. Green support likely to be highest in Inner London, places like Hackney, Lambeth, Islington. Time for the Greens to say if they can give hope to residents hurting due to LTNs. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

@BobFromAccounts If anyone posts anecdotes sir, it’s you. More importantly, those roads where LTNs funnel all motorised traffic to have a higher percentage of social housing and low income families than the roads benefitting. Instead of supporting unfairness, pls open your eyes to injustice.

@BobFromAccounts More cycling is welcome. However, modal change is most likely from PT to hire bikes. Not from cars.

Whilst we are on the subject, most cars are parked for 96% of their lives, whereas Lime bike usage continues to soar: 10% a month since 2019, up to 1 million+ journeys in London per day. It will only grow. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
