@bla_bidza there is actually a culture of simply throwing/dumping litter everywhere, in Zim, even from moving vehicles. this is made worse because no money is invested in providing refuse bins, refuse collection is haphazard. you will not find a free pubic toilet in a city like Harare. Sad

Yesterday in Harare’s city centre, I watched a vendor finish the last sip of his drink and casually throw the plastic bottle onto the pavement right in front of me. To his surprise, and that of the other vendors nearby, I picked it up and told him to dispose of it properly in a bin. I then walked through several streets searching for a rubbish bin to throw it away, but I could not find a single one. Mayor @JMafume, the city urgently needs more bins along the pavements, and they must be emptied regularly throughout the day. Clean cities are built through both public responsibility and proper municipal infrastructure.

Last night I was driving on the Bulawayo Road from Redcliff at around 12:50 a.m. I was travelling at about 90 km/h and the road was clear. As I was approaching Whitehouse, just after Meru Service Station, I noticed two men standing on one side of the road and another two on the opposite side. They were all wearing black pants. Suddenly, one of them threw an object at my car. It sounded like a tyre burst coming from behind. I was shocked because I was driving alone. I slowed down slightly but did not stop, and I switched off the radio to listen carefully. In my rear-view mirror, I saw two of the men running towards my car. I stayed calm and continued driving at a lower speed. About 50 metres ahead, two other men were pretending to cross the road slowly, likely to force me to slow down further. I became more alert and hooted at them, but they did not move. They then threw another object under my vehicle. Shortly after, my car started making unusual noises. I slowed down even more but kept moving because I did not want to stop in an unsafe situation. Another object was thrown and luckily it hit my rear spare wheel instead of the rear window. At that point, I realised this could be an attempted robbery or attack. I slowly continued driving while assessing the situation, then eventually pulled over in a safer spot and stopped. As I stopped, about three of them ran towards my car. I then fired warning shots into the air, and they immediately scattered. So please be careful when driving at night. Do not stop in isolated or suspicious places, especially when you notice unusual activity on the road. Criminals are active during late hours. Today I noticed that my car only has minor damage on the front bumper underneath. Fortunately, the damage is not serious and should be easy to fix. @PoliceZimbabwe

Many years ago, my friend and I were unemployed and hustling in Harare. We were tired of it, so we decided to try temporary teaching jobs. One day, we went to a district office where they were hiring. The place was packed with people. The education officer announced that they only had a few positions, mostly at primary schools teaching kindergarten and Grade 1. Selection was based on qualifications. When he called for candidates with Master’s degrees or higher, I was shocked. Many people started pushing and shoving to get to the front, waving their certificates. My friend, who actually had a Master’s, had left his certificate at home. He didn’t think he would need it. By the time he realized, all the positions were taken by those who had brought their documents. It was sad to see so many well-educated people from different fields fighting over just a few temporary teaching posts. 😔

To be clear: They want us to believe that the president is unknowingly walking into rooms & having discussions with people wanted by his own government. Read that again. Dont they have no means to ensure that the president is not in the presence of people who could harm him or compromise his government? This is not complex. In today's volatile security environment, company CEOs have this level of protection. Either the president’s protocol, state, or personal security & intelligence teams are grossly inept. Or they are taking the country for fools. I vote for the latter.

The Justice Uchena Commission of Inquiry into the Matter of Sale of State Land in and Around Urban Areas Since 2005 summary presentation has been released and its findings are shocking! The report is yet to be released after a court ordered its immediate release. The summary presentation says the Zimbabwean State lost almost US$3 billion through unpaid intrinsic land value, with the exact prejudice put at US$2,977,072,819 according to the report. The twenty two page summary also says many people were settled on urban state land without basic services like clean water, sewer systems and roads. Some houses were built on wetlands, under power lines, over sewer lines, and on land meant for schools, clinics and public facilities. The summary also points to political abuse, land barons, illegal sales of state land, weak government controls, poor record keeping, undervaluation of land, corruption, and politically connected individuals using names of top ruling party leaders to influence government processes. Another major hazardous issue is the public health risk. Pit latrines were built close to water sources, creating a danger of underground water pollution and outbreaks of cholera and typhoid. The summary shows massive corruption, political interference, institutional failure, illegal land sales, poor urban planning, and a huge financial loss to the State and people of Zimbabwe. It took a High Court application and years of pressure before President Emmerson Mnangagwa was ordered to release the Uchena Report into the looting of state land. It is yet to be released. The fact that citizens had to go to court to force the publication of a report commissioned by the President himself says everything about how politically sensitive the findings were. Bankers, economists, help me understand this in the Zimbabwean context. When you go to a bank for a loan, you are charged more than 20 percent interest per year. But when you keep your money in the same bank, they give you less than 5 percent per year. The difference is just too big. In Zimbabwe, where prices keep going up and bank charges are high, your money actually loses value in the bank. By the time you account for fees and inflation, you are worse off than when you started. So why would anyone keep their money in the bank? It ends up feeling like you are being punished for saving. You’re not taking risk on your money, they promise to give it to you back on demand. Lending is risk taking and the interest rate is a function of supply and demand. The irony is the same person maybe in default on their loan but can still get their deposit….. different contracts. However go to Japan where there is too much money to lend and not enough customers. The banks there will pay you to get a loan from them. Sort of what happens in Zim during hyperinflation you borrow and it’s the bank that’s worse off.
