Captain Chopra remained at the forward RAP and continued to treat casualties as they kept coming in with utter disregard for his personal safety. At night he remained at this post when the Chinese launched a fierce counter attack. Even though they advanced close to his position and he was in danger from small arms fire and grenades, he continued to attend to the steady stream of casualties. Captain Chopra moved back only when his position was almost over-run. He set an outstanding example of courage and devotion to duty. Captain Balbir Chand Chopra was awarded #VirChakra for his undaunted courage, determination, leadership and indomitable spirit. He was ordered to occupy a position in the Eastern Sector, which had been captured after an airborne assault. Before digging could be completed, he noticed a large enemy convoy approaching his locality. He brought down intense fire on the column, inflicting heavy casualties. The enemy withdrew to reorganize and attacked the company position twice. Despite heavy fire, Sarda moved and inspired his men to beat back the enemy, demonstrating gallantry, leadership, and devotion to duty. Major Vinod Kumar Sarda displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order. Major Vinod Kumar Sarda was awarded #VirChakra for his undaunted courage, determination, leadership and indomitable spirit.
