🧵I've been playing with data on the 5 states that have swung leftward over the 2012-2024 period: KN, AK, GA, NC, & TX. The two that have swung the most are Georgia (went from 11.66 points to the right of the nation in 2012 to .71 points to the right of the nation in 2024)

At the same time, the politicians in WA have no idea what they're doing. They have none of the benefits California has. They don't have girls in Newport Beach worth handing it over for. So they will lose significantly more money than they raise.

As a reformed municipal bond guy two stories have fascinated me the last couple weeks and they are of course very related. Washington state implementing an income tax and the downgrade of New York City

0% state income tax for California families making under $100,000. That’s thousands of dollars back in your pocket where it belongs. As Governor, I’ll work the issue at both ends—lowering taxes for those who are struggling and raising them on the biggest corporations that can afford to pay.

priorities in Richmond are OUT OF WHACK. They just approved a pop up tent casino in Tysons, with absolutely ZERO vote or input from residents. $$$ got their way, residents get a Casino they didn't ask for and won't have a chance to VOTE for.

Last week, former State Senator Sonya Jaquez Lewis was sentenced to probation and community service after being convicted of four felonies including Attempt to Influence a Public Official. She made a horrible mistake, and she was wrong. I hope she learns from this and can rebuild her life. As someone who has known Sonya as a friend for many years, on a personal level I was glad to hear she isn’t going to prison which is a hard place for anyone, no less a retired 68-year old pharmacist. But it is not lost on me that she was convicted of the exact same felony charge as Tina Peters — attempting to influence a public official — and yet Tina Peters, as a non-violent first time offender got a nine year sentence. Justice in Colorado and America needs to be applied evenly, you never know when you might need to depend on the rule of law. This is the context I am using as I consider cases like this that have sentencing disparities, which is why I have extended the deadline for clemency applications until April 3rd. I will be making decisions on these cases throughout the remainder of my governorship.

@lxeagle17 The baseline is comparing similar elections; compare 21, 17, etc. A 10pt win is a good win, more than that it's outstanding.

The correct baseline to use is "what is the partisanship relative to the nation?" People forget that Virginia is actually a pretty blue state at D+7. So is New Jersey. Healthy Dem wins today are the bare minimum.

This is getting a lot of hate but it's just objectively correct. Virginia is ~7 points more Democratic than the nation. Anything less than a D+10 win for Spanberger, given the D+3 generic ballot today, is a fairly mediocre result given the environment.

Trump is imagining a Washington DC with a far lower crime rate than its residents have become accustomed to. Many of those residents will oppose him for it. It's like they are protective of their crime rate, now that Trump is threatening it.

@ChazNuttycombe It’s all or nothing at this point: Rs realize they have put us on a path to destruction and call a truce via Congress or Dems do whatever is necessary now to protect the country. There’s is no tomorrow to guard against.

Also, Democrats should be careful what they wish for. Even if they successfully pass an amendment to kill the committee and return the redistricting pen to legislators only by 2028, there's no guarantee they win in 2029. It's a huge, huge gamble.

The firing of Mike Rizzo and Davey Martinez today together is shocking. The MLB Draft is 6 days away and the Nationals have the No. 1 pick and just fired their GM. Incredible timing to say the least. Make you wonder if Rizzo was told to fire Davey and elected not to.
