Sono l'unico che pensa che la ricerca spaziale abbia valore indipendentemente dagli avanzamenti tecnologici che produce? Non si può amare la scoperta per puro amore di conoscenza?

@Phoenix4517 Also, NASA had a plane/drone recording the launch from a similar perspective (although further away and better stabilised), why didn't they use for the live webcast I'm not entirely sure.

@Phoenix4517 I'm not sure where you got those numbers from, because they're way off. This is Starship, not Falcon 9.

@SavonAnkka @AO156 @thinkdefence Ok, but FPVs/sUAS aren't going away. Taking countermeasures/protection into consideration seems reasonable, even if not to the extremes we see nowadays in Ukraine (with mortars mostly used from camouflaged and protected dugouts)

@AO156 @thinkdefence What we see in Ukraine is an anomaly. Neither side can maneuver so the lethality of systems like FPVs is heightened. In 2022 Ukraine mortars would reign supreme, but we have passed them.

Russia’s Bureau 1440 announced the launch of the first 16 “Rassvet-3” satellites, Russia’s answer to Starlink. Reportedly, the company aims to begin commercial operations in 2027 and put ~250-300 satellites into orbit over the next couple years. (By comparison, Starlink has ~10,000 satellites in orbit.) t.me/bureau_1440/145 ria.ru/20260324/sputn… kommersant.ru/doc/8364882

OK, we will try to chronicle the curious case of an unprecedented/unannounced orbital launch from Plesetsk on the linked page (work in progress, of course): russianspaceweb.com/spacecraft-202…

@tymofiy @suchnerve Because the USSR saw no practical purpose in it. Meanwhile they were landing shit on Venus to capture surface conditions and designing orbital space stations.

Propaganda is why Americans get so dramatic about the moon landing btw. It was originally “Who will get to space first?” and we lost, so our government chose to move the goalposts to “Who will get to the moon first?” and they would’ve moved goalposts again if we’d lost a 2nd time

It’s official. We’re in a war of attrition with Iran. Iran is doing what Ukraine is doing which is betting the bigger power will collapse either economically or of will before they do. Betting on Iran in that case.

The U.S. is taking more losses than they are legally required to disclose. Remember, you will only hear about the material losses from OSINT sources and that will likely include Chinese satellite imagery. Anyone suggesting this war is going well is not paying attention.

@haavardamadeus @NotWoofers Also, weren't some news last summer that the british were restarting storm shadow production line and the french will increase production of scalp? Unless those were empty words, then there should be more scalp/storm shadow strikes in the future.

Russian air defenses are having an absolutely terrible year. Comes after a difficult year in 2025. But there’s a dichotomy. While some areas of the front are seeing air defenses reduced, key production facilities and urban areas such as Moscow are seeing their air defense rings strengthened. What does that tell you?
