The reason the USA doesn't is because of the efforts of Lobbyists who have actually made it impossible for them to ever do this, so that way they can keep making money off people by forcing them to use their software/staff to 'help' file tax returns.

How is none of this digitised in the US in 2026? In India I can view all this information 24/7 whenever I want on the govt’s online portal. Even my tax returns are already pre-filled with the amounts that were already reported to the govt by other institutions. All I have to do during the time of filing tax returns is verify the pre-filled information and make changes as necessary if there are any discrepancies and submit it. Seems like the tax filing process is much more streamlined and easier in India compared to the US.

The IRS is going to start screening my calls Me: "Hi, I'm calling because I got this penalty notice and---" Agent: "Tax ID please" Me: "---I don't think I owe this. The notice shows a 1099 I didn't receive" Agent: "So you didn't report a 1099?" Me: "Right, because I never got it." Agent: "Well I see it here on your account." Me: "You see the 1099?" Agent: "Yes." Me: "So you have the 1099, and I don't have the 1099." Agent: "Correct." Me: "And I'm being penalized." Agent: "You should have received it." Me: "But I didn't. And you did." Agent: "The employer was supposed to send it." Me: "But they only sent it to you." Agent: "We were both supposed to receive copies." Me: "So they failed to send it to me, they succeeded in sending it to you, and I'm the one getting penalized." Agent: "You need to report your income, sir." Me: "How? I don't know what it is." Agent: "It's on the 1099." Me: "Which I didn't have." Agent: "You still need to report it." Me: “How? You're the one with the information." Agent: "That's between you and your employer" Me: "I'm just trying to understand. You have the document. You know the amount. You caught the discrepancy. Without me doing anything. And now I owe money?" Agent: "You owe a penalty." Me: "For what?" Agent: "Not reporting the income." Me: "That I didn't know about." Agent: "Yes." Me: "That the IRS knew about." Agent: "Correct." Me: "But I should have known about." Agent: "Right." Me: "And that's my problem? How do I know there's not more missing stuff?" Agent: "Well you could request your Wage and Income Transcript. It shows all your income sources we have record of." Me: "Wait. You have a... transcript?" Agent: "Everyone has a transcript, sir. It shows all reported income and some deductions." Me: "You can see all my income." Agent: "Yes." Me: "From the 1099s and W2s?!” Agent: "Right." Me: "So you have a complete record of my income." Agent: "Yes." Me: "And you knew about this 1099 because it's on that transcript." Agent: "Yes." Me: "So why does anyone file a return? Couldn't you just... look at the transcript and know what someone owes?" Agent: "I don't---." Me: "But instead you make everyone fill out forms?" Agent: "That's how tax works, sir " Me: "Can I see the transcript?" Agent: "Of course. You just needed to request it" Me: "Why wouldn't you just automatically send it to me every year?" Agent: "We don't do that sir." Me: "So the IRS requires me to transcribe information that's already on your transcript that you make me request so that you can penalize me when I don't transcribe it correctly?" Me: "Feels like a set-up" Agent: "That's how tax works. Is there anything else I can help you with today, sir? Me: “I’d like to go ahead and request that transcript can you send it to me?” Agent: “Sure thing, I’ll get you that fax number” Me: “The what---”

@Krootzy @jimmy_rustlin But a claim of "all" drives more engagement as people click to see if any cameras they know of are on their. Same as how I checked and know my home cameras aren't listed.

@cliffski I experience this issue daily when working on legacy codebases where people have given the filename for a set of unit tests a stupily long name. Like over 100 characters long and it is like 10 folders deep. GitHub Windows CI build agents tend not to like that...

Not sure if Americans do it, but part of common Canadian forest management practice is to apply glyphosate (roundup) to kill deciduous plants in order to favor and promote the growth of conifers. Which perhaps is more profitable, but also gives increases the risk for fires because of the buildup of dead deciduous plant matter.

@_ByteMyBits Well you have an AU/China plug socket on that board and devices from those countries generally use 50hz grid frequency vs the USA 60hz. Or maybe am misunderstanding your use case and it is just for if you end up receiving the wrong connector on a cable instead.

@rh22367 Not sure how 🤔 each outlet is either 120v or 240v, hz wont change. This is intended to power 1 or 2 devices at the same time (unless only low amp outlets are being used). It’ll let me plug it in to a 50a outlet I have and adapt it to just about anything else I may encounter.

@Vuojolahti @DJSnM For the accessing bank site overseas I would just set up a PiVPN/Tailscale Exit Node at home and connect to that. Running a 5W Single Board Computer to give secure routing to appear as though I am at home is much better than paying for a commercial vpn in my opinion.

@DJSnM Yeah, commercial VPNs are fine if you want to get a cheaper deal for a video game or your boomer bank blocks connections from abroad while you're traveling. But all the Youtuber talking points about security/privacy are just snake oil bullshit.

I've turned down a lot of money to promote VPN services for this exact reason

And after going through it myself it is pretty traumatic having to contact the ex to get them to sign the papers, let alone trying to get them to pay half the processing fee. @ko_dll If you have a language selector on your game you could always add a "Request Translation" option which would notify you of such requests. I mean if they are looking for their language it is the best place to offer that option to them. Can be default option for non localised too

There are many ways to ask tiny indie devs to add localization to their game. These requests can be polite or rude, but leaving a negative review for missing localization is one of the worst approaches. I pay localizations from my pocket, and I hate blackmail practices!🤬🥺🤢

@NZXT Read the blog and watched the video. Interesting how you think a product name can be used for vastly different configurations. Also claiming 4090 was EOL to then create a separate 4090 version of the Player 3 is dishonest. Inventory tracking is a solved problem so you lose there.
